STARSkate Pricing Information

September 2019 – March 2020 STARSkate season is from early September 2019 to end of March 2020. Early Bird pricing is only applicable if the

Early Bird form and payment were submitted by June 15, 2019. Deadline for registration is August 22rd, 2019. PLEASE NOTE - IMPORTANT

Sessions have been changed this year with the new STAR 6 to Gold guidelines, with revised names and qualifications by a point system (outlined on the matrix page). An additional hour of ice has also been obtained on Wednesdays from 4-5, enabling Skate Kingston to expand programs. Please note some sessions have changed times and days. STAR A has option of 2 days/week and includes 30 minute group lesson. STAR B and STAR C have options of 4 days/week.

Ice show practices may occur before March break and will occur after March break and take priority. Skaters who don’t participate can still skate on their normal days of skating.

Registration will be ONLINE this year with credit card payments. If preferred, payment can still be done by cash or cheques and mailed or dropped off at the Skate Kingston mailbox by the INVISTA Centre front desk.

Skate Kingston Refund Policy: Requests must be made in writing prior to October 15, 2019. Fees will be prorated. Requests for refund after October 15th will be at the discretion of the board and a medical note is mandatory. A $40 non-refundable insurance and administrative fee will apply. NSF cheque charge $30. Please Note: Schedules and information are subject to change. Skate Kingston is not responsible for loss of ice due to events beyond our control, including inclement weather. No refunds will be given for loss of ice out of Skate Kingston’s control and any makeup ice is at the discretion of the City of Kingston.

Skate Canada registration fee of $44 will be added to the package, as it is not included in pricing below. PLEASE NOTE THAT Early-bird pricing below includes the DEDUCTION of the $50 deposit for those that paid early bird in June. Skaters can have different levels (points) for the different disciplines of FreeSkate, Skills and

Dance – but must have certain overall total points for qualification for the STAR A, B & C (see

matrix above). In addition to the total points to be on a session, skaters must have completed

certain tests to qualify. For example, to qualify for STAR B the skater must have completed all

STAR 1 tests for FreeSkate, Skills and Dance for a total of 3 points; in addition the skater must

have completed at least two STAR 2 tests for an additional 2 points (5 points in total).

STARSkate Volunteer and Fundraising Agreement 2019-2020 Season

VOLUNTEER COMMITMENT Each HOME CLUB family will be required to fulfill their volunteer commitment of 2 hours per night skated (up to a maximum of 10 hours per family). Skaters that are registered 1 or 2 days per week must provide $300 in post-dated cheques (2 cheques each $150). Skaters that are registered 3 or 4 days per week must provide $500 in post-dated cheques (2 cheques each $250). For families with 2 or more skaters in STARSkate the volunteer amount is based on total number of days skating for the family. For example, a family with 2 skaters each skating 2 days per week, that family would have the commitment of $500. I understand that these cheques will be “held in trust” until I have fulfilled all of my volunteer commitment. Once I have fulfilled all of my volunteer hours, these cheques will be returned to me. I understand if I do not fulfill these hours the cheques will be cashed. Cheques are payable to Skate Kingston, with 1 dated for Dec 1/19 and the other for March 1/20. If only writing one cheque please make it for March 1/20.

MANDATORY FUNDRAISING COMMITMENT Fundraising is mandatory for all skaters with at least a partial package (HOME CLUB AND NON-HOME CLUB skaters). Fundraising is a very important part of any non-profit organization. At Skate Kingston this will help to keep ice and program costs reasonable for everyone and contributes to events that are held throughout the year. We will again be selling chocolates. This fundraiser is mandatory for all STARSkaters. Each STARSkate family will receive chocolate bars to be sold for a total fundraising commitment of $75.00. The skaters will sell these chocolate bars to family and friends and keep the proceeds they earn as the chocolates are paid for in their registration fees. There will be additional fundraising opportunities available throughout the year. More information will be distributed regarding these options as they become available.

Ice Etiquette for STARSkaters and Coaches

SKATERS, PARENTS AND COACHES PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY.

Right of Way on the Ice: Skaters in a lesson and having music played have priority.

Coaches should coach from the boards unless they are skating. (Please ensure any discussions are done at boardside)

Cross-discipline coaching is permitted as all sessions are open. (unless grouped structured sessions).

Courtesy and good sportsmanship to coaches and fellow skaters are expected at all times. If you get in another skaters way please be polite and apologize.

If a coach has concerns with the conduct of another coach’s skater, the concern should be discussed between the two coaches, unless deemed an immediate safety issue.

If you fall, get up immediately.

Skaters and coaches must watch out for those using the harness.

Harness Use: (If session is on the Kingston Transit) All coaches that have been trained to use the harness have access to the combination in the SK Music Room.

See the SK Director of Skating Programs for training if required. Coaches please operate the harness parallel to the board side for ice safety.

Free Skate: Skaters are invited to bring their solo music with them to the ice surface if not on the tablet. Please leave your music in the

time keeper bench area. Ice door located at rink centre under the windows of the rink.

Skaters must watch for skaters in a lesson or skating their solo music.

Spins are to be practiced in the centre of the rink.

Jumps are to be practiced in the corners and length of the rink.

Please remember to pick up your music at the end of the session from board side or the basket at the corner door of music room ice door.

Music Request: Each coach is entitled to one request per lesson. If there are no other requests (from skaters or coaches) additional

requests are permitted.

Skaters will have their music played in order of request. A sign-up sheet is available at board side to sign up for your music request. Only coach or skater playing their music may remove it from the request list.

If time permits skaters may have their music more than once.

Skaters and Coaches - please be courteous and start the next solo when your solo has finished.

Other General Issues: No food, gum chewing or drinks are allowed on the ice. Water is allowed.

Put garbage (including Kleenex) in the containers provided.

If socializing is disruptive to the session, you may be asked to leave the ice.

Skaters are NOT permitted to use personal electronic devices (cell phones, iPods & MP3 players) while skating on SK ice. Coaches can use these devices for teaching purposes only. If a coach is observed using these devices for purposes other than teaching their privileges to use them on the ice will be revoked.

Must use change rooms to get dressed. It is City Policy to not use the main lobby or hallways for getting skates on.

PROBLEMS OR CONCERNS ON THE STARSKATE ICE SHOULD BE DISCUSSED WITH SK DIRECTOR(S) OF SKATING IMMEDIATELY.
