Through the efforts of many students in the past who had the ambition to do something for their fellow students and who accepted the challenge to enrich this university with a large variety of events, STAR is now not only the largest, but also the most diverse international, professional, and dynamic study association in Europe.

Together with 250 active members, you are responsible for organizing 50 projects each year. Enabling active members to achieve committee successes as well as determining its strategic direction and guiding this extensive association are core tasks. Besides this, STAR has close relationships with the university and the business world which opens doors that otherwise would remain closed.

What can you expect? As a board member, you will have a great opportunity to put management theory into practice in a relatively short but intense period of time. By working together with many people in diverse situations, you will be able to learn a lot about your own strengths and weaknesses, and also challenge others within the organization to explore their strengths and weaknesses.

During a board year you will experience things you would have never experienced otherwise. You will expand your network and networking skills by working together with the university, hundreds of companies, politicians, and other student organizations. You will supervise and guide different committees, learn to work in teams, and acquire leadership skills. Further, you will learn how to develop policy and strategy for an organization and how to execute your goals.

Besides being a learning experience, a board year is also really an enjoyable experience. We believe in the motto: Work Hard, Play Hard. Besides working hard, you will meet many new people, attend many dinners and parties, and have a great time.

“Being a STAR Board member really is working hard, playing hard.“

“Working within the STAR board will give you the time of your life. It gives a lot of challenges, fun and teamwork. It is absolutely an honor, but it is not an honorary job. It is a lot of work, but will definitely pay back!”

Maarten de Smit, Commissioner of Public Affairs

“Why you should apply for the STAR Board next year? STAR is seen sometimes referred to by the other associations as the Investment bank of the study associations. It’s true: you will make long hours and leaving the office at 23.00h is not unusual. It’s hard work, but it’s still working in a student environment, which makes it a nice combination between real work and having fun. In contrast to an Investment Bank you will not gain huge bonuses, but what you will gain, is a lot of new friends. ”
