Director’s Letter

As a director I have done everything from comedies to dramas; slap-stick shows to

edgier works. But nothing gives a director that sense of pride and accomplishment the

way a humble family show can. For some, that’s what theatre is all about. When I do a

show I find the best work comes from a cast that feels and acts like a family. That is one

of the most important aspects of this show.

My cast has done an amazing job of becoming a family. I have pushed hard, and they

have worked hard. I am extremely proud of all they’ve done. They have taken a true story

about a strict and efficient father, a well-spoken and mild-mannered mother, their horde

of children, and turned it into a wonderful piece of art.

But this play isn’t just about a strict dad who doesn’t let his girls have fun and go out on

dates. Or a dad who doles out school work and mathematical projects at home, pushing

his children to skip grades and go further in school. This show is about a father who

loves his children—his family—and only wants the best for them; a father who wants to

save time. What for you ask? For work if that’s what you love best. For beauty, for art.

For mumbelty peg if that’s where you heart lies. That’s what you save time for…

wherever your heart lies.

So, where does your heart lie?

I thank God every day for giving me this passion and drive. And I thank my family for putting up with my crazy antics, as theatre can sometimes consume every ounce of our soul. Not that I mind!”

CAROLYN CORSANO WONG (Producer) Carolyn has had the privilege of performing on the Crighton stage numerous times. Most recently in Southern Hospitality reprising the role of the crusty frustrated director Miss Geneva in STAGE RIGHT’S premiere produc-tion; Christmas Belles. Perhaps that role was foreshadowing things to come since she recently made her directorial debut with Love Letters. Other recent visits to the Crighton stage include My Fair Lady, M*A*S*H, and Arsenic & Old Lace; all with the Crighton Players. Carolyn has performed on other stages in the Houston area including ACE and Playhouse 1960 and many in the DFW metroplex. She has worked the front of house and backstage in many capaci-ties, especially when her daughters, Amanda and Susan are onstage.

ROGER ORMISTON (Light Design) STAGE RIGHT is pleased to have Roger’s creativity displayed in this show. Patron’s raved over his lighting ef-fects in Love Letters. Roger was in the unique position of being lit by his own design: having recently appeared onstage in Lone Star at the Owen Theatre.

THOMAS E. LOCKHART JR. (Lights) Tom is making his debut in the light booth for this show. You may remember seeing him in Stage Right’s last production of Southern Hospitality where he played Sheriff Buntner. Previous roles include Raynard Chisom of Fayro, TX in Christmas Belles, Commander Brooke in The Uninvited, the man from Selsey in My Fair Lady, and his fa-vorite role of Kris Kringle in Miracle on 34th St. Now sit back and enjoy the show.

JIM TATUM (Sound) Jim is a mainstay at the sound board both here at the Crighton and at the Owen Theatre. Most recently he designed sound for Noises Off and Annie Get Your Gun. If you every need music, Jim probably has it in his collection.

SETH RADLIFF (Assistant Director/Stage Manager) Cheaper by the Doz-en is a great play and Seth is so proud to be a part of it. He would like to thank God, family, STAGE RIGHT, and Jillian Nolan for this opportunity! This is his first show in these roles and he says he “couldn’t have asked for a better cast to work with.” Seth looks forward to working with STAGE RIGHT again, at what he believes to be the best theatre in Conroe.
