Staffed byThe Redemptorists
Today, the Second Sunday of Easter, we celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday, a feast instituted by Pope John Paul II in the year 2000. The feast is always celebrated on the Second Sunday of Easter because on that day we always proclaim the story of the appear-ance of the Risen Christ to Thomas who doubted his resurrection
and lovingly embraced him with healing and forgiveness. The feast is also celebrated immediately after Easter Sunday because it was on that first Easter Sunday that the Risen Christ appeared to the apostles and gave them the power to forgive sins: “If you forgive people’s sins they are forgiven then; if you hold them bound, they are held bound” (John 20:23).
We live in a world where sometimes, it seems like mercy is a rare commodity. Our country is afflicted with brutal divisions between, red states and blue sates, liberals and conservatives; neither side willing to yield or forgive the other. We live in a country where those who seek power will gain it at any cost. We are a Church which has strug-gled with scandal and the anger that comes with it and so we ask ourselves: When do we forgive? On a personal level, each one of us has experienced hurts which seem unforgivable, each of us struggle with anger and resentment. Divine Mercy teaches us that it is only with the grace of God that we can receive the power to truly forgive those who have hurt us. It teaches us that on a national and ecclesial level, if we continue to fight one another, refusing to yield and forgive then the only result will be social and moral paralysis and ultimately a bitter death. Remember today that God is rich in mercy and pray for the grace to be merciful with others.

MASS INTENTIONS FROM THE RECTOR

NEWS & EVENTS
StewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardshipReflection“Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’” (John 20:21)
Peace – the first gift of the risen Lord. Just as Jesus sent the apostles out into the world, so too, He sends us. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to be grateful and generous. Look for opportunities to share His peace, not only within our local parish boundaries, but outside of them as well. In giving, we receive the peace of Jesus Christ.
