FROM HRBC
FAMILY MINISTRIES
During the summer, people are constantly traveling and are com-
ing in and out. Attendance can either be fantastic, or it can be in a
slump. Because there is so much instability in people attending, in
the youth group, we take a break from teaching a series to having
some summer games. Every Wednesday night is a water Wednes-
day in the youth. It is a time for fellowship and to bring unity in the
youth group, but this summer, we are adding something to the mix,
the power of testimony.
John wrote in Revelation 12:11, “And they
have conquered by the blood of the Lamb and
by the word of their testimony.” A testimony is a
powerful thing. It’s a story of how God helped
you overcome a test. So often, it is how God
helped you overcome sin to get to salvation, but it really can be any
obstacle or test in your life that God has helped you overcome. While
testimonies make such an impact, many of our students do not know
their leaders’ testimonies. This summer, we are asking some of our
youth leaders to tell their story.
The implications of telling kids our testimony are numerous. First,
the youth can see that God has worked in our life in some of the
same ways he is currently working in their life. Many youth maybe
struggling with some of the very things our leaders struggled with.
Testimonies are encouragement that God has the power and love to
get you through your deepest struggles. A second implication is it de-
velops unity among the youth and the leaders. Youth will respect
leaders more when they discover their past experiences and will lis-
ten to them in Bible Studies if they give advice on a certain subject.
Third, it shows transparency. We are not perfect people, nor have we
ever been. We have been sinful, but we all chose to cling to the cross
to help us overcome sin. It is our prayer that these testimonies will
help the youth overcome their struggles by clinging to Jesus. In addi-
tion, we hope that students can develop their own testimony that they
can use to lead others to Christ. God is at work in our student minis-
try, and we praise him for it.
