Super Summer Sandwich Helpers!

The St. Viator Community Service Committee (SVCSC) invites you to help Catholic Charities feed their clients over the summer. There is a great need for this special assistance since many regularly contributing organizations do not meet during the summer months.

Our goal is to make and bag a minimum of 150 lunches twice a month during June, July and August.

Lunches consist of two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, drink, salty snack, dessert and an encouraging note.

How Can You Help? 1. Volunteer to make and bag lunches on the

first and third Sunday of the month during the summer. The next date to help will be July 2

nd - 11:00 AM - Parish Center Hall.

2. Donate! Thank you for the plentiful donations of peanut butter and jelly. We are now requesting any of the following items: Sandwich sized ziplock bags, large paper lunch bags, napkins, small bottles of water, juice pouches, snacks (chips, crackers, or pretzels) and individually wrapped desserts. You can bring your items to the food bank during the summer. Please indicate these are for lunches by writing SVCSC on them.

3. Do both! Volunteer to make lunches AND donate items.

If you have questions contact Bob Schill at [email protected] or 702.897.1052.

Remembering Summer 2016

This summer the bulletin will feature some photos from the 2016 church restoration as well as historical pictures and articles documenting the growth of our parish.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, On the weekend of June 25, our diocese will take up the Peter’s Pence Collection. Our participation supports the charitable work of Pope Francis as he reaches out to those who are marginalized and suffering around the globe. By supporting this collection, you join the Holy Father in bringing a little more mercy into the world. Pope Francis called to us in his 2016 Urbi et Orbi address:

“May efforts be made everywhere to promote the culture of encounter, justice and reciprocal

respect, which alone can guarantee the spiritual and material welfare of all people.”

We are taking up this collection to be part of the Church’s effort to promote a culture of encounter and justice. Your support makes it possible for the Holy Father to carry out his charitable works around the world, to help victims of war, natural disasters, and other difficult situations. Let us join with our brothers and sisters in faith from around the globe to help Pope Francis reach the marginalized in our world. Please prayerfully consider how you can best support the collection this year. For more information about the collection, please visit www.usccb.org/peters-pence. Thank you, and may God bless you abundantly, I remain Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Joseph A. Pepe, D.D., J.C.D. Bishop of Las Vegas

Trust in Jesus

Today's feast celebrates another central mystery of our faith--the mystery of the Eucharist. Like the mystery of the Trinity, the real presence of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist can never be fully understood, but can only be believed. Just as the Israelites in the desert were invited to put their trust in God's word to them, we are invited to trust wholly in the word of Jesus. In today's Gospel Jesus promises to give us a share in his very own flesh and blood, and a share in eternal life besides. We are called to take him at his word and open our hearts to receive true nourishment and life from our participation in the Eucharist.

A Stewardship Moment

Among the compelling Eucharistic themes proclaimed in today’s readings is the notion of “participation” as found in Saint Paul’s letter to the Corinthians. Good stewards are part of a Eucharistic family: loving, welcoming, serving. An important part of living as a steward comes about in the many ways we can participate in the life of the Church.

Reflection

No matter how much time we have to give, no matter what our skills or interests, no matter what our level of commitment, there is a way to participate as a good steward to enrich our lives and the lives of others to build up the Body of Christ. How do you participate in the life of your parish?

A Father’s Day Prayer

Father, It is your commandment that we should honor our fathers; hear the prayer we offer you for them. Grant them many years on earth and keep them in health of mind and body. Bless their work and all they do. Give them back a hundred-fold whatever they have done for their children. Inspire them with Your love and help them be role models for their family. One day, may we be their comfort and support, so that having enjoyed their affection on earth, we may have the joy of being with them forever in Your home in heaven. Amen.

Daddisms - The things dads say “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” “When I was your age . . . “ “I’m not sleeping, I’m just resting my eyes.” “I’m not going to tell you again.” “Don’t talk that way to your mother.” “If someone told you to jump off a cliff, would you?” “You’re not going out in that.” “A little hard work never hurt anyone.” “Waste not, want not.” “They don’t make things like they used to.” Dad sayings rub off on their children. 43% of dads state they find themselves using the same phrases they were told by their fathers.

After the building on St. Louis and Eastern was torn down, parishioners were attending Mass in various storefronts and Strip hotels, including the original Last Frontier.
