“Walking on sunshine, baby, all right now, time to feel good, hey!” Can’t help but sing the lyrics written by Katrina and the Waves as we gathered on the beau-tiful grounds of Mt. Mary University with anticipation and happy hearts. With just over 9,000 walkers registered, we came together to celebrate Catholic education and demonstrate pride and support for STA. Thank you Captain Carol Ewald for ad-vertising and organizing the event for STA! We raised $887.11 and had 37 registered walkers on our team. Father Gene’s self-portrait display in the Gath-ering Space and passing the hat brought our parish/school together supporting the efforts of raising money for tuition assistance. Did you know all the money raised for our walk team goes directly into the Pheiffer tuition assistance fund? The
Pheiffer fund is an opportunity to help support families who have the desire to send their children to a Catholic school, but may not have the financial means.
Last year, we helped 7 families continue their faith journey at STA and we will be able to provide tuition assistance again in the spring. Thank you to everyone
who contributed to our cause and/or joined us on the walk! God bless STA!

God who created pumpkins and people, bless the beautiful Halloween light.
The light reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world.
Jesus shines through the darkness and turns night into day,
sadness into joy, hate into love
and tears into smiles.
Bless the happy jack-o-lanterns we carve and the candles they hold.
Let them be a reminder that we are your candles
lighting up the smiles and hearts of our friends and family.
May we never be afraid of the darkness Knowing your wonderful light is with us.

Basketball parents: A reminder that all forms and fee need to be turned in prior to the first practice which is fast approaching. All 5th grade athletes need a physi-cal (form #5), along with forms #1
-4, and 17. Forms are on the STA website under athletics. 8th Grade athlete's that are in need of a physical were contacted. You can turn them into the school office. Save the Date : WILD GAME IS MARCH 17TH, 2018. We need EVERY-ONE'S help to make this a successful fundraiser. Funds raised go towards the gym maintenance in addition to other functions. Congratulations to Angelena Wieczorek and her 8th grade St. Charles volleyball team. They took 2nd place recently in the Holy Apostles tourna-ment. Check out the traveling trophy outside the office! ********************************************************************
Making the Grade
“National Family Partnership, formerly the National Federation of Parents for Drug Free Youth, was established as a grassroots, nonprofit organization in 1980 by a handful of concerned and determined parents who were convinced they should begin to play a leadership role in drug prevention. Since its founding thirty years ago, NFP has devoted its efforts to the well-being of youth. The mission is to lead and support our nation’s families and com-munities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug free youth” http://redribbon.org/about/ STA’s theme for Red Ribbon Week 2017 (10/23-10/27) is: our future is bright as bully and drug free Knights! Student council has organized events to support our message: Thursday – Future is bright – NEON or tie-dye day! No all
school Mass Thursday, so casual attire is appropriate. “Dirty
Kettle” will have his teepee set up in the church parking lot and
each class is scheduled to go back in time and visit with him
(more information listed under the Trunk or Treat graphic).

The Kindergarten class completed a pumpkin investiga-tion! We dissected a pumpkin to see the "guts." We used describing words to say a pumpkin is or-ange, lumpy, dirty, and big. We also said the guts were slimy, stringy, and yucky. We tasted pumpkin seeds and found out that pump-kins float!
The writers in the third and fourth grade class-room are beginning to share their various writing pieces with their classmates. They are sharing their read-ing theme reflection piece, their personal narratives, and an information article from Scholastic News. When speaking in front of their class-mates, they are work-ing on volume, rate, fluency, and eye con-tact. There are a few nerves at first, but as the year moves along, they will become confident sharers!!
In Mathland we have been working hard at mastering our con-cepts. 5th Grade is multiplying, 6th, 7th and 8th Grade are working on algebraic expressions, 7th Grade Algebra is working with Ine-qualities, and 8th Grade Algebra is working with Poly-nomials. All lessons build on each other and they get harder and harder each year. It is very im-portant to understand each concept before moving forward.

We have Birthday Parties down to a science!
Mad Science birthday parties entertain chil-dren of all ages with exciting, high-energy, in-teractive shows that come to you.
Some of the fun things the kids might see:
*Discover objects that float through columns of air!
*Relish the mystery of fireworks!
*Watch in amazement as energy lights up a ball of plasma!
*See in wonder as water takes on an eerie green glow!
*And much, much more!
Children also have the opportunity to make their very own Mad Science Slime to take home (don't worry it's not messy!).
Kids will be amazed by the number of cool and interactive demonstrations, chemical reac-tions, and activities!
Parents will love the fact that Mad Science birthday parties are mess-free and hassle-free. Best of all, we provide a satisfaction guaran-tee!
