HUMILITY Humility is a virtue we don’t see much in our times. It seems that bragging, swaggering, and arrogance dominate our fashion for everything and our Internet conversations. Who hasn’t been irritated by the “trolls” who try (usually with bad grammar and poor spelling) to start an online fight with those whose opinions do not align with theirs? Our stores, catalogs, and online shopping sites are full of useless items geared in use and price to the very rich, as ordinary, useful things seem to fade off the sales scene. As the rich get richer, the poor get poorer and the middle class is fading away. What is the antidote to this? Humil-ity is a good place to start. Devotion to God is worth more than riches. “The father of orphans and the defender of widows is God in his holy dwelling. God gives a home to the forsaken; [God] leads forth prisoners to prosperity.”

PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS

On Saturday, September 28th, the Diocese of Santa Rosa will present a day of prayer and fel-lowship for all adults in the Diocese. The event will be held at Cardinal Newman High School, 50 Ursuline Rd., Santa Rosa. The theme is “Encountering Jesus in the Liturgy”.

The day will begin at 9a.m. with Holy Mass by Bishop Robert F. Vasa. Different workshops and speakers will be presented at Centers, through-out the day. This day is designed to bring spiritu-al nourishment to all Adults in the Diocese.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CONGRESS 2019

St. Thomas is preparing food for the “Table” at the Presbyterian Church every third Thursday of each month. We hope you will use the sign-up sheet so we know what food you bring and who the volunteer helpers will be on that Thursday. We need potatoes, carrots, ham, green beans, and milk. The sign-up sheet for the food is on the “Table” board and a half barrel marked “Table” underneath where you can put food the Sunday before. This is on the NW corner of the Hall.

We will have the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament on Fri-day, September 6th, from 9am to 9pm. Mass will be cele-brated at 12pm. Please come and join us for Adoration on this First Friday.

BLESSED SACRAMENT ADORATION

Reminder to parents of students who are en-rolled in our CCD program: There will be a par-ent meeting on Tuesday, September 10 for the students who will be attending classes on Tues-days. There will be a parent meeting on, Wednesday, September 11 for all students who will attend classes on Wednesdays. The parent meeting is mandatory for all parents. At least one parent must attend. We will have parents check in. The meetings will be held in the Church at 7 pm. Classes for the students will begin on September 17 and 18. Thank you.

CCD NEWS

I wanted to take the time to thank everyone who helped with the parish picnic last Sunday. It was such a blessing to see many gathered to make this a great parish event, from the Chefs, the kitchen help, those who helped set up and clean up. I was aware of the great effort, hard work and time that many people spend in making our parish picnic a great event. It was such a nice event to gather as the one parish family that we are. Thank you very much to everyone! May God continue to bless you and our parish of St. Thomas, Fr. Abel

Recordatorio para los padres de estudiantes que están inscritos en nuestro programa de catecis-mo para niños: Habrá una reunión de padres el martes 10 de septiembre para los estudiantes que asistirán a clases los martes. Habrá una reunión de padres el miércoles 11 de septiembre para todos los estudiantes que asistirán a clases los miércoles. La reunión de padres es obligato-ria para todos los padres. Al menos uno de los padres debe asistir. Haremos que los padres se registren. Las reuniones se llevarán a cabo en la Iglesia a las 7 pm. Las clases para los estudiantes comenzarán el 17 y 18 de septiembre. Gracias.

En la Iglesia de Santo Tomás tenemos la Adoración del Santísimo Sacra-mento el viernes 6 de septiembre de 9am a 9pm. El Santísimo Sacramento estará expuesto en la custodia en el altar para Adoración y oración hasta las 10pm y la misa se celebrará a las 12pm en Ingles. Por favor venga y

acompáñenos para la Adoración en este primer viernes.

Quería tomarme el tiempo para agradecer a todos los que ayudaron con el picnic de la parroquia el domingo pasado. Fue una gran bendición ver a muchos reunidos para hacer que este fuera un gran evento parroquial, desde quienes cocinaron, los que ayudaron en la cocina, los que ayuda-ron a organizar y limpiar. Estoy consciente del gran esfuerzo, trabajo y tiempo que muchas per-sonas dedicaron para hacer de nuestro picnic parroquial un gran evento. On a sabbath Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully. He told a parable to those who had been invited, noticing how they were choosing the places of honor at the table. "When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not recline at table in the place of honor. A more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him, and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say, 'Give your place to this man,' and then you would proceed with embarrassment to take the lowest place. Rather, when you are invited, go and take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you he may say, 'My friend, move up to a higher position.' Then you will enjoy the es-teem of your companions at the table. For every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted." Then he said to the host who invited him, "When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, in case they may invite you back and you have repayment. Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be be-cause of their inability to repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

Un sábado, Jesús fue a comer en casa de uno de los jefes de los fariseos, y éstos estaban espián-dolo. Mirando cómo los convidados escogían los primeros lugares, les dijo esta parábola: “Cuando te inviten a un banquete de bodas, no te sientes en el lugar principal, no sea que haya al-gún otro invitado más importante que tú, y el que los invitó a los dos venga a decirte: ‘Déjale el lugar a éste’, y tengas que ir a ocupar, lleno de vergüenza, el último asiento. Por el contrario, cuando te inviten, ocupa el último lugar, para que, cuando venga el que te invitó, te diga: ‘Amigo, acércate a la cabecera’. Entonces te verás honrado en presencia de todos los convidados. Porque el que se engrandece a sí mismo, será hu-millado; y el que se humilla, será engrandecido”. Luego dijo al que lo había invitado: “Cuando des una comida o una cena, no invites a tus amigos, ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes, ni a los ve-cinos ricos; porque puede ser que ellos te inviten a su vez, y con eso quedarías recompensado. Al contrario, cuando des un banquete, invita a los pobres, a los lisiados, a los cojos y a los ciegos; y así serás dichoso, porque ellos no tienen con qué pagarte; pero ya se te pagará, cuando resuciten los justos”.
