Today we celebrate the Feast of Corpus Chris , the Body and Blood of Christ that nourishes us along the way as the Jews received manna in the desert to sustain them on their journey from bondage to the Promised Land. Many things have been said about the Eucharist, songs and hymns have been wri en and sung, Masses through the ages have been composed by great composers like Bach, Berlioz and Bernstein.

The Eucharist is the center and core of our faith as Catholics. It nourishes us with God’s Word, works at sanc fying us and calls us to act. A hymn that some may know wri en by Ross Parsley sums up how we might act in response to receiving the ‘Bread from Heaven.’

I encourage you not just to read the following lyrics but to try to live in a way that reflects them. If you google ‘as bread that is broken’, many videos will pop up. I suggest you take a few minutes to look at them. They will give you a fuller meaning as we honor the Body and Blood of Christ today, and every day of our lives un l we sit together at the final but eternal Banquet/Wedding feast of the Lamb.

Artist: Ross Parsley Album: Lord of the Harvest

Many hearts are hungry tonight, Many trapped in darkness yearn for the Light So many who are far from home, And many who are lost Oh, Lord, Your wounded children need The power of Your cross As bread that is broken, use our lives As wine that is poured out, a willing sacrifice Empower us, Father, to share the love of Christ As bread that is broken Lord, use our lives Help us to begin where we are. Help us love the people near to our hearts Then give our faith a mission field Wherever You may call Lord, love Your world through each of us, Until we've touched them all As bread that is broken, use our lives As wine that is poured out, a willing sacrifice Empower us, Father, to share the love of Christ As bread that is broken Lord, use our lives As bread that is broken, use our lives As wine that is poured out, a willing sacrifice Empower us, Father, to share the love of Christ As bread that is broken Lord. As wine that is poured out Lord. As bread that is broken Lord, use our lives.

We congratulate the graduates of our parochial school who celebrate their successful comple on of grade 8 this past week. They are now spreading out to a end many different high schools and as a parish we pray for their con nued success. Congratula ons to all graduates this season. Fr. Emmanuel graduated two weeks ago and next week we will thank him and bid him farewell as he returns to Nigeria to take up an assignment with his degree that his bishop gives him. On next Sunday a er the 9am Mass there will be a donut social to give all a chance to say thank you to him and bless as he goes forth to a new ministry.

We pray for all graduates that the Lord will con nue to bring to fullness and maturity the good things that the Lord has started in you.

Woodminster - Annual Men’s Club Event

Please mark your calendars for this year's summer musical at the Woodminster Amphitheater as the Men's Club presents Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (based on the story of Joseph and his brothers in the Old Testament). If you haven't seen it, you really owe it to yourself and your family to sit back, listen, and enjoy one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's first theatrical successes. Date will be on Sunday evening August 5. Picnic beforehand optional. More details to follow. Contact Luigi Bonacini at [email protected].

Corpus Christi - Ave Verum Corpus

The motet Ave verum corpus is one of the last things Mozart ever wrote. It was written in June 1791 and by December of that year, the composer would be dead at the tender age of 35. He wrote it for a friend, Anton Stoll, who was the music director of St Stephan in Baden bei Wien, outside Vienna, for the feast of Corpus Christi that year. The text is a 14th century Eucharistic hymn attributed to Pope Innocent VI. The translation of the text is something like this:

Hail, true Body, born of the Virgin Mary, having truly suffered, sacrificed on the cross for mankind,

from whose pierced side water and blood flowed: Be for us a foretaste [of the Heavenly banquet]

in the trial of death. Rob Cakebread

Lord Jesus, in Baptism we were washed in the blood of the Lamb; at every Communion, we eat your Body and drink your Blood. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we continue to live with your life, sharing in your divinity as you have shared in our humanity. For this we give you praise and thanks.
