Dear Friends,

Those of us who are able to participate in the Disciple groups are into our second week now. I will speak for myself – and those of you who aren’t doing it this year can check in with others who are to see if they would agree – I am finding that it is a lot of work but it is already having a deepening impact on my relationship with God. Every week there is a theme word; this week’s is WONDER – and we are focusing on God’s wonderful work in creating all that is. What is our God like? Well, we see reflections when we look around at the extravagance and diversity of creation. Did you know that there are 500,000 species of beetles? God is creative; God is interested in there being things (critters, people, mountains, stars) outside of Godself and also being in relationship with those things (especially us humans). God is playful – consider the elephant and the hornbill. God is vast and powerful – calling galaxies and volcanoes into being with a word. There’s lots to wonder about, isn’t there?

Our readings today, focus on the vastness of God as well. Paul writes in Philippians, “don’t worry about anything, but in everything… let your requests be made known to God.” God is more than able to handle – and give us the strength to handle – whatever comes our way. Both our reading from Exodus and the gospel, point out that it isn’t wise to take God for granted. God’s love is bottomless, but with a relationship comes accountability. And God is not to be taken lightly. One way to not do that is to take the time to wonder – to ponder the immensity of God and the immensity and beauty of what God has made, to ponder the astounding fact that God loves us and that Jesus died for us. So as we enter this beautiful season of fall – as the trees turn red and copper and yellow and orange (who would think of creating something that would do that??), let’s wonder our little hearts out, rejoicing in the Wonder that is our God. The high altar flowers are $30.00 and the chapel altar flowers are $20.00. Envelopes are available beneath the calendar to place your payment and your reason or dedication for the flowers. Reading God’s Word

We grow best when we are nourished by a steady diet of God’s word. Reading the Bible daily is an important habit to develop. Scripture is best when it is well chewed over and digested, so one good way to get into the habit of reading the Bible is to take time to read the Sunday readings several times during the week.
