SERVICE OF THE WORD (Worship Supplement, p. 12)
Invocation We invoke (“call upon”) the name of the one true God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
P In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
C Amen.
Confession and Absolution We come before our Holy God recognizing that we are sinful and daily need His forgiveness.
P We have come into the presence of God, who created us to love and serve Him as
His dear children. But we have disobeyed Him and deserve only His wrath and
punishment. Therefore, let us confess our sins to Him and plead for His mercy.
C Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from birth. In countless
ways I have sinned against You and do not deserve to be called Your child.
But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy upon me according to
Your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt.
P God our heavenly Father, has forgiven all your sins. By the perfect life and innocent
death of our Lord Jesus Christ, He has removed your guilt forever. Through faith in
Him, which was created in you by the Holy Spirit, you are His own dear child. May
God give you strength to live according to His will.
C Amen.
Kyrie Latin for “O Lord.” We approach our Lord with a cry for help in all the needs of our earthly life. W.S. p. 13
Lord have mercy on us. Christ have mercy on us. Lord have mercy on us.
Gloria in Excelsis Latin for “Glory to God in the highest.” W.S. p. 13
Glory to God, we give You thanks and praise;
Of heav’nly joy and peace on earth we sing.
We worship You, to You our hearts we raise,
Lord God, almighty Father, heav’nly King.
4
Lord Jesus Christ, the Father’s only Son,
You bore for us the load of this world’s sin.
O Lamb of God, Your glorious vict’ry won,
Receive our prayer, grant us Your peace within.
Alone, O Christ, You only are the Lord,
At God’s right hand in majesty most high:
Who with the Spirit worshiped and adored,
With all the heav’nly host we glorify.
Prayer of the Day
P We pray:
Lord of all power and might, author and giver of all good things, graft into our hearts
the love of Your name and nourish us with all goodness that we may love and serve
our neighbor. We pray this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and
reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C Amen.
First Reading 1 Kings 17:17-24 (NKJV)
17 Now it happened after these things that the son of the woman who owned the
house became sick. And his sickness was so serious that there was no breath left in him. 18
So she said to Elijah, "What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to
me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?" 19
And he said to her, "Give
me your son." So he took him out of her arms and carried him to the upper room where
he was staying, and laid him on his own bed. 20
Then he cried out to the LORD and said,
"O LORD my God, have You also brought tragedy on the widow with whom I lodge, by
killing her son?" 21
And he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out
to the LORD and said, "O LORD my God, I pray, let this child's soul come back to him." 22
Then the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him,
and he revived. 23
And Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room
into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said, "See, your son lives!" 24
Then the woman said to Elijah, "Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and
that the word of the LORD in your mouth is the truth."

Second Reading Romans 4:18-25 (NKJV)
P The second reading is from Romans 4:18-25.
C Sanctify us by Your truth, O LORD. Your Word is truth!
18 [Abraham] who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of
many nations, according to what was spoken, "So shall your descendants be." 19
And
not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was
about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb. 20
He did not waver at
the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to
God, 21
and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to
perform. 22
And therefore "it was accounted to him for righteousness." 23
Now it was
not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, 24
but also for us. It shall be
imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, 25
who
was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
P Blessed are they who hear the Word of God and keep it!
Alleluia and Verse When God speaks to us in His Word it is natural for us to respond. We sing “Allelujah!”—meaning, “Praise the Lord!”
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
These words are written that we may believe
That Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Apostles' Creed We boldly confess what we believe. W.S. p. 15
C I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there He will come to judge the living and the dead.
6
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Hymn of the Day: 611 Chief of Sinners Though I Be LSB 611
5 O my Savior, help afford By Your Spirit and Your Word!
When my wayward heart would stray,
Keep me in the narrow way;
Grace in time of need supply While I live and when I die.

Sermon Text: Luke 7:11-17 (NKJV)
11 Now it happened, the day after, that He went into a city called Nain; and many of
His disciples went with Him, and a large crowd.12 And when He came near the gate
of the city, behold, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother;
and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.13 When the
Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” 14 Then
He came and touched the open coffin, and those who carried him stood still. And
He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” 15 So he who was dead sat up and began
to speak. And He presented him to his mother. 16 Then fear came upon all, and they
glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has risen up among us”; and, “God has
visited His people.” 17 And this report about Him went throughout all Judea and all
the surrounding region.

Offertory W.S. p. 16
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from Your presence,
Take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation.
Uphold with Your Spirit free.

Classroom Flooring and Teacher Apartment Updates and Offerings – We rejoice to
announce that this past Sunday we received a special gift offering of $20,000 to help cover
the cost of the remodel of the back room of the parsonage garage to the new teacher's
apartment. In the month of May we also received a special gift offering of $2000 to help
cover the cost of the new flooring in the lower grade classroom at school. We praise and
thank God for moving the hearts of His people to give so generously! These gifts will have a
profound impact on our school and congregation, Lord willing, for years to come.
We will be needing volunteers periodically, mainly on the weekends, over the next few
months to help with these projects. Please speak with Michael Horrillo if you’d like to
volunteer your time and talents to these projects (408) 891-5331. A big “THANK YOU” to all
who have given so much time and effort to this project so far. We pray that this will be a
blessing for Mikkela (who is very excited to move into her new home!), as well as a blessing
for our school and congregation.

KINSHIP Disaster Relief - The COVID-19 epidemic has affected many of us in a variety of
ways. We’ve also been learning of the suffering our brothers and sisters in Christ around the
world have been facing in the current epidemic. Between COVID-19 Aid and cyclone relief,
monetary aid has been sent overseas from KINSHIP. There remain additional needs among
our various sister synods (see Mission Opportunities Prayer List on the back pages of this
bulletin). The CLC Board of Missions is requesting that you consider offering your financial
support to replenish the KINSHIP funds, so we can be ready to respond when the next need
comes along. If you would like to donate, please mark your offering “KINSHIP,” or you may
send your offerings to CLC KINSHIP, 501 Grover Rd., Eau Claire, WI, 54701.
Volunteers Requested for Saturdays @ 2pm for Online Worship Recording -
We are looking for 2-6 volunteers each Saturday afternoon at 2pm to participate the
video recording of the worship service and help add a few voices to the liturgy responses and
hymns that are spoken and sung each worship service. Please let me know if you'd like to
volunteer for one or more of the Saturday worship service recordings. We hope this will be a
blessing to those who volunteer as well as to those who watch our online worship services.
