Parish Picnic News Unfortunately the Covid-19 pandemic continues to affect our community. It is with great sadness that I have to announce that we have decided to postpone the Parish Picnic. We are currently exploring options of having a Fall Festival or waiting until next year. We are currently working with our vendors to see if we can agree on future dates. So stay tuned, hopefully we will be able to have a great celebration in the Fall. If you would like to assist on the Parish Picnic/Fall Festival committee, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or the other co-chairs, Aaron & Susie Pollard, Megan & Tim Deutsch or Meghan & Wayne Wencker. Fourth Sunday of Easter Today’s readings invite us to recognize our need for one who ensures our safety, nourishes us, and leads us to peace and security, like sheep who rest in the care of a good shepherd. Such a shepherd will protect and save the sheep, even from the most deadly of preda-

tors. Today, we ponder the incredible news that Jesus accepted death on the cross in order to open the gates of eternal life with God for us. Through his resurrection, Je-sus protects and saves us from the power of sin and death. We need only accept his love and live as God’s people in this life, relying on the Lord who is the door to new life for us and for all.

GOOD NEWS!

When Peter faced the crowds on Pentecost, he was em-boldened by the Holy Spirit and proclaimed the truth of Jesus Christ passionately to those who gathered to hear him. There was likely part of him that was not quite sure what to expect, knowing that a few weeks prior, crowds of people had chanted “Crucify him!” as Jesus was sen-tenced to a cruel and unjust death. The people who heard Peter were moved by his witness, compelled to acknowledge their sinfulness and to accept the news of salvation through Jesus Christ as good news, the gospel that changes everything.

JESUS SAVES

Be honest with yourself. Have you ever gone astray? Have you ever given in to temptation or weakness? Do you sometimes feel that you need someone to help you get your life on back on track? Most people could answer yes to any of these questions. As people of faith, we know that Jesus understands the struggles we face and gave his life to save us from our human frailty. The Lord knows that we need help in order to live as God’s people in the world. There are people and powers that seek to mislead us, who offer a way that may for a time be appealing, even though it does not lead to the true way of life, love, and peace. We can be readily dissuaded and distracted from the ways of holiness. We easily lose our way, lured by the trappings of material possessions, wealth, or social status. Jesus is our only real way, the door that leads to meaning and peace in this earthly time, and to life ever-lasting.

Sunday, May 3rd World Day For Vocations

O Father, you desire all of us to be happy. Stir up the grace of a religious vocation in the hearts of many men and women. Grant to them the willingness and generosity to give of themselves, their lives, their time and their talents to the service of Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord and Savior, and to His Holy Church. May more men and women go forth as priests, deacons, brothers and sisters to bring the truths of our Catholic faith to all others so that soon they, too, may know You better and love You more… and serving You, be truly happy. Amen.

St. Louis Review News Just a reminder that the St. Louis Review subscriptions run from May to May of the following year, so if you signed up and paid but haven’t started to receive yet, the list has been sent and will start soon! Women of St. Simon—new virtual book/Bible study—great for busy

moms and/or coronavirus home-bound ladies!!

So, you want to develop a deeper relationship with Jesus. But you also have a family. A home that refuses to take care of itself. Jobs to go to. Children to raise. A spouse to support. Dinner to cook. Committees to work on. Charities that need your time. Friends whose relationships you treasure. Projects that you lead. How on earth are you to find time in your day to spend quality time with Jesus or to reinvigorate your spiritual life? JoAnna Weaver writes about this struggle in her book, “Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World: Finding Intimacy with God in the Busyness of Life”. The book revolves around the well-known story in Luke 10 about the sisters of Lazarus and their evolving relationships with Jesus. In it, Weaver examines the lives of modern women as they struggle, just as these two Biblical sisters did, between “spending time in the kitchen” and “spending time at the feet of Jesus” and offers practical advice and insights. But busy women also rarely have time to meet once a week to discuss two chapters of a book. What if you could read at your own weekly pace and share your thoughts with other women from your own home whenever during the week it is convenient for you? We are starting up a virtual book/Bible study in the next few weeks, based on “Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World”. The format will be totally electronic (although we might have a real face to face meeting at the very end to wrap up) and will last about 6 weeks. Two chapters will be highlighted for discussion each week and participants will be able to log on to the group forum and discuss their thoughts on the week’s readings with one another. If you are interested in participating, simply order a copy of the book (through Amazon, Barnes & Noble or downloaded on your Kindle or Nook or other e-reader). Then send an email to Lisa Marin ([email protected]) by May 3. You will be emailed with all the information to access the electronic group and then we will begin the week of May 4.

Contact Lisa Marin (494-5758) if you have any questions.

Outreach Opportunities There have been many requests from generous parishioners wanting to know what they can do to help those in need. Two opportunities have been identified if you would like to help those less fortunate during this difficult time: 1) Hancock School. For several years, St. Simon School has prepared sack lunches for elementary school children in need. While the school is closed, the need is still there and even greater. St. Simon School is currently collecting the following items to assist:

• Fruit snacks, applesauce cups, and pudding cups

• Microwave popcorn, trail mix

• Cookies, granola bars, rice crispy treats, peanut butter crackers

• Mac 'n cheese, soup / ravioli

• Ramen noodles, instant oatmeal

• Kool-aid jammers 2) Peter and Paul Men's homeless shelter is in need of personal hygiene products for men. This includes:

• Disposable razor blades and shave cream

• Tooth brushes and toothpaste

• Soap

• Deodorant Donations can be dropped off in the church lobby or even outside the church doors if this is preferred. The office staff will sort and organize the items and make sure they are taken to these two organizations.

Prayer of Spiritual Communion when unable to receive Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament:

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
