Dear Friends,
On the Sunday after Christmas we celebrate Jesus’ human family. Appropriate to the season, we usually visualize the Holy Family as they appear in the typical nativity scene: the baby Jesus lying in a manger, surrounded by his doting parents. But Joseph, Mary and Jesus lived together for many years, through Jesus’ infancy, childhood, adolescence, and maybe even into adulthood. As we celebrate the Holy Family, let us think of the families we have been part of, both as children and adults and thank the Lord for the blessing of the family.
As was announced in previous bulletins, today we as a parish had the opportunity of participating in the CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY FAMILY sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. We do this on Holy Family Sunday because that is what we are precisely called to be – a family gathered in holiness. Pope Francis, in addressing the assembly at the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia in 2015 said: “Love is shown by little things, by attention to small daily signs which make us feel at home. Faith grows when it is lived and shaped by love. That is why our families, our homes, are true domestic churches. They are the right place for faith to become life, and life to grow in faith.”
Having participated in this Consecration, let it be for you an occasion to discuss together how to become a holy family. Together make it a priority this year to receive the sacrament of Penance regularly. Use the practice of prayer and fasting for the intention of growing together in holiness and becoming for the world a beacon of light and hope for all. If you were not present for the Consecration today, please pick up a prayer card found in the narthex and the doors of the church and gather your loved ones together to pray the Act of Consecration. This Consecration will not only be of great spiritual benefit to your family but will also assist us as a community of faith to grow in holiness and peace!
This Tuesday, January 1st is the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, a Holyday of Obligation. MASSES FOR THE HOLYDAY WILL BE ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 31 at 5PM. MASSES ON JANUARY 1st WILL BE AT 7AM, 9AM, and 11AM. THERE WILL BE NO 12PM NOON MASS OR EVENING MASS ON JANUARY 1st.
Just a reminder, the Parish Office will be closed on Monday, December 31 and Tuesday, January 1st. The office will resume regular hours on Wednesday, January 2nd at 9AM.
I want to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to all of you who showered your priests and staff with Christmas greetings and treats. We were overwhelmed by your thoughtfulness and generosity. As you know, it is our pleasure to be counted among this great parish community. Your support and kindnesses are our daily blessings! THANK YOU, ONE AND ALL!
May Saint Robert Bellarmine continue his intercession on our behalf and bless the coming New Year with the Lord’s gifts of joy and peace!
With prayers,

So that as many people can participate as possible, Holy Hours for Vocations will be held at various parishes in the Archdiocese. These Holy Hours are designed to unite Catholics across the Archdiocese in prayer for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. During these Holy Hours, we ask Christ to help us bear the fruit that He intends to harvest through adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

The Holy Family of Jesus Mary and Joseph
Family Connection to the Gospel and the Consecration to the Holy Family
Today's Gospel describes a time of anxiety in the life of Jesus' family. We can
imagine their panic and worry as they discovered that Jesus was not with the
caravan returning to Nazareth. The Holy Family journeyed with family members and
friends because traveling alone was dangerous. When they found Jesus at the
Temple, Jesus spoke like a typical adolescent, unsympathetic to his parents' concern. Yet
his words teach an important lesson about reducing anxiety in our family life. In
essence, Jesus says, “If you had remembered who I am, you would have known where
to find me.” In their panic, Mary and Joseph had forgotten what had been told to them
before Jesus' birth, that their son was the Son of God.
“He gave the greatest sign of His love, His Son. And His Son, where did He send Him? To a palace? To a city, to start a
business? He sent Him to a family! God came into the world in a family. And he was able to do this because this
family was a family that had its heart open to love, that had the doors open to love. ” Pope Francis
Consecration to the Holy Family — Sunday, January 6, 2019 at all Sunday Masses
Preparing to Make an Act of Consecration
In preparing to make an Act of Consecration the faithful are advised to do ready their
hearts for the entrustment they will make. In anticipation of the Act of
Consecration to the Holy Family one might do the following:
1. Discuss the importance of this act with one’s family, why are we doing it?
2. Make a Good Confession
3. Fast from something for the week leading up to the consecration
4.Consider how you might live the Consecration at Home in the coming year(s). Some practice of prayer you
might do as a family, an activity of service you might commit to or the placement of a cross or sacred image in
your home etc.
As you gather as a family, have fun playing the game “How well do you know me?” Take turns trying to
stump one another by asking family members questions about yourself, such as “What is my favorite memory of
a family vacation?” “Given a choice, what dinner menu would I pick?” “If I could travel anywhere in the world,
where would I go?” One member of the family might prepare and read the questions aloud as each person
writes down the answers. Family members then take turns guessing the answers, playing this game as a quiz
show. Observe that one thing about families is that we learn to know each other well.
In the new year, St. Robert’s will be participating in the
DISCIPLE MAKER INDEX SURVEY, conducted by the Catholic
Leadership Institute. The survey will allow parishioners to
reflect on their spiritual growth and discipleship and identify
ways in which the parish effectively supports that growth. The
survey will accessible online and in paper form, beginning in
February. PLEASE WATCH for more information and plan to
participate!!

RESPECT FOR LIFE The only differences between the Herod of old and the “Herods” of today are in the weapons used and the number of victims. Herod used swords and spears to kill the Holy Innocents. Today’s Herods use surgical abortion, “The Pill” and other chemical weapons. And whereas Herod killed a relatively small number of babies, today’s Herods have butchered, worldwide, hundreds of millions with no end in sight! .
