NEW YEAR’S INVITATIONAL NEWS

The field is full for our 92nd annual New Year’s Invitational to be held January 4-7, 2018. 2017 champion Hayden Buckley will be returning to defend the title he won in tough conditions this past January. Hayden, a senior at the University of Missouri, had a fine fall season, winning individual titles in 2 Division I events. He will be joined by teammates Matt Echelmeier and Trevor Ullestad. Some fine local players now in the college ranks will be competing, including Kyle Shealy, Greyson Porter and Blake Dyer. Cristian DiMarco, 2017 Florida state ama-teur champion and son of PGA Tour standout Chris DiMarco, is playing along with his USF teammate Jimmy Jones who won our 2016 New Year’s. Last year’s NYI mid-amateur leader Darin Goldstein is also returning. Final qualifying for Web.com Tour spots will be held early this month in Arizona. 14 for-mer New Year’s competitors are in the field, attempting to begin or continue their pro-fessional careers. All players reaching this 3rd and final qualifying stage will have some status on the Web.com Tour next year, but only those finishing in the top 45 will gain full playing status. We wish xour alums the best of luck. And you can watch New Year’s players on the PGA Tour when it resumes in January, including Brandt Snedeker, JB Hol-mes, Jason Dufner, Luke List, Bud Cauley and a number of others.

TOURNAMENT2017 Club Mixed Doubles Championship, Jan. 27-28, 20182017 Club Men’s and Ladies’ Doubles Championships, April 7-8, 2018

Teis Schedule2017 has gone by so fast, it’s hard to believe the Holiday Season is upon us. The cooler, drier weather is a sure sign that winter is upon us. After the hurricanes passed us by in the past couple months, we’ve hardly had a drop of rain. Satellite, South Pinellas, and Lakettes are all winding down their Fall seasons. The 2017 Men’s and Ladies Club Singles Championships were held this past month. The Ladies and Men’s ‘A’ Di-visions were won by Suzanne Alvarez and Brant Bailey. Suzanne and Brant are both new champions. She defeated Twila Davis in the finals, 7-5, 6-2. Brant Bailey defeated Fred Guerrier(past champion 18 times), 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 in a match that lasted over three hours. The champions will have their names engraved on the plaque in the club hall-way, as well as stenciled on their parking spot across from the tennis courts. The 2018 Mixed Doubles Championships will be held Sat. and Sunday, January 27-28th. The 2018 Men’s and Ladies Doubles Championships will be held Saturday and Sunday, April 7-8. Save those dates and start looking for a partner.I have been emailing tennis players about court conditions and tennis events. If you would like to receive these blasts, write me at [email protected] or call the shop at 867-9105 and give me your email address. We are now in the busy season so please be sure to call ahead and book a court for night play as well as for Tuesday morning play. Tuesday is our busiest morning. Monday and Thursday are the busiest nights for play. Night reservations start at 6:00 pm and last until 7:30 pm if someone is wait-ing. Court one will be the first court that must vacate if a group is waiting at 7:30 pm.Don’t forget my Retirement Sale. There are great deals on Vitalsox, shoes and demo racket.Merry Christmas one and all,Sam Vuille
