September 1, 2019 – 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Rather, when you hold a banquet, invite the poor, the crip-
pled, the lame, the blind; blessed indeed will you be because
of their inability to repay you." (Luke 14:13-14)
We have a difficult time with the concept of giving without
expecting something in return. Even when we give to chari-
ty we often want something in return – a raffle ticket, a din-
ner, a chance to play golf or our name in print. Yet, as
Christian stewards, we need to remember that the true re-
ward for our giving awaits us in heaven.

ATTENTION WORLD DAY OF
MIGRANTS & REFUGEES
Sunday, September 29, 2019
The Church has been celebrating World Day of Migrants & Ref-ugees since 1914. It is always an occasion to express concern for many different vulnerable people on the move; to pray for the challenges and increase awareness about the opportunities that migrants offer. Pick up a copy of the parish bulletin every week leading up to the 2019 World Day of Migrants & Refugees to learn more about this topic and share it with others. In this week’s material we answer a simple question:
What is the difference between a refugee and an immigrant?
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refu-gees, a refugee is someone who has been forced to flee his or her country because of persecution, war, or violence. A refugee has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, reli-gion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group. An immigrant is someone who voluntarily leaves his or her country in order to improve the prospects for them-selves and their families.
From Pope Francis
“The presence of migrants and refugees...is an invitation to re-cover some of those essential dimensions of our Christian exist-ence...it is not just about migrants. When we show concern for them, we also show concern for ourselves, for everyone; in tak-ing care of them, we all grow; in listening to them, we also give voice to a part of ourselves that we may keep hidden because it is not well regarded nowadays.”
