Mission Statement : The Roman Catholic Saint Thomas More Parish Family welcomes and invites every person to join us on our journey in faith and celebration. With the grace and guidance of the Holy Spirit, and through Sacred Scripture and Tradition, we proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all, especially in loving service to those in need.

As part of the Universal Church, we affirm the dignity of every person. All this we do to give glory and honor to God.

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ "And when the leftover fragments were picked up, they filled twelve

wicker baskets." Today's Gospel shows us that Jesus wants to do more than satisfy our needs. He wants to give us an experience of fullness

and abundance. He not only miraculously fed the crowd of thousands; he also provided enough to make a mountain of leftovers. More than they needed, more than they ever expected. That's what Jesus gave.

And it's what he continues to give us every time we receive the Eucharist. This too is a miraculous meal. Like the multiplication of "five loaves and two fish," Jesus turns something small--bread and

wine--into something abundant and overflowing: his body, blood, soul, and divinity.

Through this sacrament we experience the gift of union with Jesus and the resulting graces that come from encountering him. Just like the

crowds gathered that day in a deserted place, we come to Jesus with our emptiness--our needs, our weaknesses, our fears--and he fills us up

until we too are "satisfied." The prayer after Communion on today's feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ reminds us that what we experience at Mass is a

foretaste of that ultimate satisfaction that we will experience in heaven: "Grant, O Lord, we pray, that we may delight for all eternity in that

share in your divine life, which is foreshadowed in the present age by our reception of your precious Body and Blood." Receiving the Lord in

the Eucharist is a momentous miracle and an earthly glimpse into heaven. May today's celebration help remind us to be ever grateful for

this most glorious gift.

If you have already taken the opportunity to make a pledge for this year’s Catholic Services Appeal, allow me to express my sincere appreciation. Your contribution will help the work of the Church universal, national, and local. You will also aid the parish in the rebate that we will receive for any money collected over and above our parish goal. If you have not taken the opportunity yet to make a pledge to this year’s CSA, please consider doing so. Our parish does so much for its members and it is largely through contributions such as yours that we are able to do so.

PLEASE REMEMBER THEM Please pray for the priests and deacons who have served the Diocese of Gary so faithfully and whose anniversaries of death are this week:

May 29: Msgr. Paul P. Bogovich (2002) May 30: Rev. Cornelius P. Bergan (1961) June 1: Rev. Dominic A. Pallone (1983)

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE Three preachers were spending some time on the lake relaxing and trying to get some rest, when one of the preachers volunteered that he had a confession to make. The preacher confessed that he had a problem with alcohol. He felt that he needed to share his problem with his closet friends in hopes that they would be able to help him to get better. The second preacher, while trying to console the first, said that he, too, had a secret weakness. He confessed that he liked to smoke cigars every once in a while. The third preacher, who had been taking all of this in with rapt attention, announced to his friends that, since they were sharing their secret faults, he too, would make a confession. They were horrified when he told them that he had a problem with gossip.

GOD’S LOVE KNOWS NO BOUNDS

Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing over them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. They all ate and were satisfied. And when the leftover fragments were picked up, they filled twelve wicker baskets. (Lk 9:16-17)

God’s love for us knows no bounds.

He created us in His image and likeness.

He became one of us in the mystery of the Incarnation.

He suffered and died for us so that we might live forever with Him.

Before He died, He gave us His Body and Blood, to nourish us on the way.

That great gift is what we celebrate today on this Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

In His first miracle, Jesus turned approximately 180 gallons of water into wine for a wedding feast. In today’s Gospel, we hear about twelve baskets of leftover fragments being collected after a crowd was satisfied.

God has so much in store for us.

Let Him be as lavish in His love for you as He wants!

FAITH ACTION: Return God’s lavish love for you by dedicating some time simply to be with Him today. In quiet prayer, thank God for the great gift of the Eucharist.

MEMORIAL DAY Because we are called to be people of peace, love, joy, unity, compassion, and justice, there are times that we need to “step up” and help others in need who are being oppressed. Those times often lead to war. In war, the ultimate sadness happens. Good peoples’ lives are cut short. Tomorrow, as we celebrate Memorial Day, we remember all of those who have served in the military and who have made the ultimate sacrifice of giving up their lives so that we might be free. We thank them for their sacrifice and we ask God to give them the peace that they struggled to ensure. There is one Mass on Memorial Day and it is at 9:00 a.m. Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace!

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR EIGHTH GRADERS

Synod 2017 What do we mean when we talk about discipleship? The Catechism of the Catholic Church (1816) defines a disciple

this way: “The disciple of Christ must not only keep the faith and live on it, but also profess it, confidently bear witness to it, and spread it.” In response to God’s free and unmerited gift of grace

poured out upon us in our Baptism, we are called by the Lord Jesus to become his disciples. Being a disciple of Christ requires that we die to ourselves, embrace the cross and radiate Christ’s

love at every moment of our lives. To view Bishop Donald J. Hying’s video on discipleship and

formation, go to http://www.dcgary.org/synod.htm.

Blue Army of Fatima “I come here from Heaven, I am the Lady of the Rosary.

I have come to warn the faithful to amend their lives and to ask pardon for

their sins. They must not offend our Lord any more, for He is already

grievously offended by the sins of men. People must say the Rosary. If people

do as I ask, many souls will be converted and there will be peace.”

Of all the Marian apparitions, none so captivated the world than at Fatima. As

we begin the Centennial, all are invited to the Blue Army of Fatima Hour of Prayer every Monday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

(Note: time change)
