PENTECOST SUNDAY SEND OUT YOUR SPIRIT

Last week we heard that, following the Ascension, the disciples, Mary, and other followers of the Lord retreated to the upper room in prayer. This week we hear that, while praying in that room, the Holy Spirit comes upon them. Jesus’ post-Resurrec on promise, recounted in today’s Gospel, is fulfilled: the power of the Holy Spirit comes upon Jesus’ fol-lowers. Saint Paul tells us that all of us, in some way, are given gi s of the Holy Spirit, gi s that can be used to spread the Good News. Today is one of the Church’s greatest fes vals. Let us carry the refrain of the responsorial psalm with us throughout the coming week: “Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth!” (Psalm 104:30). Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Readings for the Week Monday: Tb 1:3; 2:1a-8; Ps 112:1b-2, 3b-6; Mk 12:1-12 Tuesday: Tb 2:9-14; Ps 112:1-2, 7-9; Mk 12:13-17 Wednesday: Tb 3:1-11a, 16-17a; Ps 25:2-5ab, 6, 7bc-9; Mk 12:18-27 Thursday: Tb 6:10-11; 7:1bcde, 9-17; 8:4-9a; Ps 128:1-5; Mk 12:28-34 Friday: Tb 11:5-17; Ps 146:1b-2, 6c-10; Mk 12:35-37 Saturday: Tb 12:1, 5-15, 20; Tb 13:2, 6efgh, 7, 8; Mk 12:38-44

To prepare for the Readings of June 10/11 First Reading — The Lord, merciful and gracious, rich in kindness and faithfulness (Exodus 34:4b-6, 8-9). Psalm — Glory and praise for ever! (Daniel 3). Second Reading — Brothers and sisters, rejoice. Live with one another in peace, and the God of peace will be with you (2 Corinthians 13:11-13). Gospel — God did not send the Son to condemn the world, but to give it abundant life (John 3:16-18).

Air Conditioning Update

Do you wonder why it’s so warm in Church? Didn’t we just replace our air conditioner? Here is the answer to your questions. The main cooling of our air conditioning system is performed by two “chillers.” One of the chillers completely failed late last year and needed to be replaced. Thanks to your generosity, we collected most of the cost of this unit ($60k). However, before its replacement was complete, the other chiller developed a major leak. Due to the cost to repair the second chiller, its age, and its use of refrigerant that is no longer produced, the most prudent decision was to replace the other chiller as well. The broken chiller is functioning at less than half its capacity, so it is difficult for our system to keep up with the rising heat of the season. A new chiller has been ordered and will be manufactured and installed within weeks. We are making whatever arrangements we can to keep the Church cool.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

Christ instructed his disciples to go out into the world and preach the Gospel (Mark 16:15). For hundreds of years foreign missionaries built and supplied the young American Church with priests and religious. As a na on we s ll have large areas that are mission territories, but instead of foreign missionaries supplying for their needs, we as the domes c Church are called to respond to the challenge.

The Catholic Home Missions Appeal (CHMA) was established to strengthen the Church here at home. Your support funds programs such as religious educa on, seminary forma on, and lay ministry training. The CHMA also supports Marriage and Family Life ministries.

For the last 131 years the Black and Indian Missions Collec on (BIM) has supported evangeliza on and educa on efforts for Na ve Americans, Alaskan Americans and African Americans throughout the United States. Your support has helped educate African-American and Na ve American seminarians for priestly service in Catholic Communi es and helped begin a new religious community for service to Na ve Americans in Arizona.

On June 10th & 11th our Diocese will have a special collec on for Black & Indian Missions and Catholic Home Missions. Your contribu ons will help strengthen the Church at home and ensure that the Gospel is spread across the United States. The CHMA and BIM collec ons are instrumental in the building of Chris an communi es and sharing the joy of knowing Christ. Your support helps to build vibrant faith communi es right here in America.

With gra tude for your con nued generosity and every prayerful wish, I am Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito Bishop of Palm Beach

Prayer for the New Evangeliza on Heavenly Father,

Pour forth your Holy Spirit to inspire me with these words from Holy Scripture. S r in my soul the desire to renew my

faith and deepen my rela onship with your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, so that I might truly believe in and live

the Good News. Open my heart to hear the Gospel, and grant me the confidence to proclaim the Good News

to others. Pour out your Spirit, so that I might be strengthened to go forth and witness to the Gospel in my

everyday life through my words and ac ons. In moments of hesita on, remind me: If not me, then who will proclaim the Gospel? If not now, then when will the

Gospel be proclaimed? If not the truth of the Gospel, then what shall I proclaim?

God, our Father, I pray that through the Holy Spirit I might hear the call of the New Evangeliza on to deepen my faith,

grow in confidence to proclaim the Gospel, and boldly witness to the saving grace of your Son, Jesus Christ,

who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Join a great team! Altar Server’s needed! Altar Servers are a vital part of the Mass. We are

blessed with many experienced servers. If you would like to be an Altar Server and you have received your

First Communion, please call the office.

REST IN PEACE - Robert Gialanella and Nance Brittis,

May they rest in God’s peace and may their families be strengthened in faith.
