A Summer of Favorite Hymns! Remember the lists of favorite hymns you made for our anniversary celebration? We will be using those hymns all summer! Get set for a summer of great favorites new and old. If you would like to submit additional hymns – it is not too late. Just let Pastor Karen know and we will try to get it in this summer.

Summer Lunch Program The Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission provides free lunch for all children in Paulding every day from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at LaFountain Park from June 8 through August 13. This wonderful program is for children ages 1 to 18 (or over 18 with disability). Churches and community organizations are asked to participate in this program by providing volunteers and a short time of games/activities for the kids after they have eaten.

Welcome Mike Hernandez Miguel "Mike" Hernandez is a life-long resident of Paulding and son of Carlos and Marcia Hernandez. Mike graduated from Paulding High School in 2014. He continues to live in Paulding with his parents and grandmother. The St. Paul Council voted to support Mike by hiring him to fold bulletins and newsletters at St. Paul. Mike comes to us from the Harbor Career Connections program for people with disabilities. Mike is also working at the Paulding United Methodist Church folding bulletins and doing light janitorial work. Mike and his family feel very blessed that St Paul has welcomed him with open arms. He looks forward to working with Pastor Karen and Tara!

A very special thank you to

Mr. Joe Hale

of Paulding from the people of St. Paul It is hard to know just where to start in expressing our gratitude for all Joe Hale (and his deceased wife, Pauline) has done for St. Paul in memory of his son, Robert. The initial gift of an eternal candle for the sanctuary was amazing and the ongoing gift of seven-day candles for that lamp is beyond words. Our records indicate that he has been providing the light of Christ for this congregation since 1977. That is almost 38 years of extraordinary generosity. Their generosity will not be forgotten.

A new lamp to light out way… Our thanks to the Hasch family for their generous donation of an electric sanctuary lamp (eternal candle) for our sanctuary. The new sanctuary lamp will be efficient and earth friendly. We will no longer have a canister a week to dispose of and the flame will never go out. Watch the newsletter for the date of dedication of this gift.

Farmer’s Market at St. Paul

The Paulding FFA is planning to hold a Farmer’s Market at St. Paul this summer. Watch the bulletin and web page for more details. The proceeds from these events will support the FFA and many young people in our congregations.

St. Paul Members!

Have you noticed the carpeting in the fellowship hall, narthex and classrooms/offices? It is getting pretty worn. An initial estimate for replacing the carpet is about $15,000. Council has established a “carpeting fund” so that we can work toward new carpet. If you would like to make a donation toward this project, please feel free to mail your contribution or place it in the offering plate marked “carpet.” Once we have gathered sufficient funds, three estimates will be obtained and brought to the congregation for approval.

St. Paul’s poor, old carillon… In this age of technology, what seems new to us is actually very old in “techno” years. Our carillon, purchased in around 1980, is not functioning right and the parts are no longer available for repairs. A new electronic system costs about $32,000. If you would like to see St. Paul purchase a new carillon, please feel free to begin making donations dedicated to the project. Please mark you contributions “carillon.”

Ice Cream Social Don’t miss the wonderful homemade ice cream, pie and sandwiches at St. John Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 27, 4:00pm-7:00pm. Each year the people of St. John provide the whole community with delicious treats. The neighbors look forward to this event.

We need your help! We need help with making the ice cream on Thursday, June 25 starting at 8:00 a.m. We also need help with setting up the fellowship hall, serving, and cleaning up on the 27th. Please watch for the sign-up sheet in the narthex.

550 Members and 60 youth of the Northwestern Ohio Synod, ELCA not only experienced what it means to be Sent with the Spirit (this year’s Assembly theme), but were gifted with encounters that personified our being One in Christ, and were equipped to continue Growing as Disciples through the 2015 Assembly held at Bowling Green State University May 15 and 16th. One in Christ: Pastor Jaroslav Javornik & Bishop’s Secretary Evka Hlavati from the Slovak Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Vojvodina, Serbia, Bishop Amon Kinyunyu and General Secretary Robert Mgaya from the Dodoma Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania, and Rev. Dr. Ron Glusenkamp Director for the Always Being Made New Campaign, ELCA helped participants, through worship leadership, preaching and presentations to hear stories about local, national and global ministries and inter-church relationships which brought home our Oneness in Christ, even with Christ’s Church across the waters. Growing as Disciples: Pastor Tim and Diane Sonnenberg as well as a myriad of NWOS local ministry “Mission Moments” and Workshop presenters challenged, taught and equipped participants to continue growing as disciples through global missions, Bible study, personal finance, women and justice issues, church mission strategy development, marketing and much more. Our own band REW!ND also provided witness through music for the youth and voting members on Friday evening, sharing their personal stories of faith and their journey as young adults in the ELCA. Then through designated on-site mission projects voting members and youth, together, experienced significant moments of being “Sent with the Spirit” as they took time and used their creativity to: pack 19,000 meals for the hungry, weave grocery bag mats for the homeless, make cards for nursing homes, blankets for foster families, and posters celebrating special-needs ministry…In some 30 hours, this group of NWOS members ages 10 – 80 finished the business of the synod: elections and finance; discussed issues around the Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist and the Use of the Means of Grace, gathered information regarding the Synod and ELCA campaigns, began the process of preparing for the 2016 Bishop Election, commissioned our young people to the ELCA National Gathering in Detroit, and the Tumaini Medical Mission 2 Trio to Tanzania this fall, and, of course, shared in the body of Christ through the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. This event–full weekend and that all-important meal together reminded both young, old and in between, that Christ’s forgiveness and grace is experienced in our communion together, as is our oneness in Christ, which then gives us the power to be sent back into our communities knowing that the Spirit promises to be with us to the end of the age. Elections: Synod Council – Nancy Green, St. Paul, McClure; Thomas Ritter, St. John, Findlay; Rev. Kent Wilson, Zion, Lima; Rev. Richard Genzman, Peace, Galion & St. John’s, Leesville; Cindy Milbry, Redeemer, Toledo; Christinia Wheeler, First, Galion

Sharon Stonerock; Diana Schneider, Zion, Lima; Rev. Kevin Maxey, Hope, Toledo; Emery Fair, Redeemer, Toledo; Paula Hicks-Hudson, Redeemer, Toledo; Jacob Henry, St. John’s, Stony Ridge

SERVERS: Thank you so much for all that you do! We are in need of more servers for our congregations. What do our servers actually do?? You offer assistance on Sundays to make sure the worship service runs smoothly. You provide transportation for those in need of a ride to Church and other related activities. You count the offering. You prepare the altar for communion services. And so much more! Current needs are posted in the bulletins, but sometimes a need arises unexpectedly. Would you be willing to help? Please call Tara in the Church office and find out what is needed now. Or look at the servers lists in the bulletins and newsletters to see what is open. And what about scheduling? After many years of hard work, Ellie has passed the torch to Tara in the Church office. If you have any preferences, please let Tara know so that she may try to meet your needs as much as possible. And remember, please take the time to find a replacement if you are unable to serve on Sunday, then call Tara so that she may get the change put in the bulletin.

ALTAR FLOWERS FOR ST. PAUL: Who pays for altar flowers when there is no name on the list? The WOMEN OF WELCA graciously take care of that so that the altar looks fresh every week. But now, they are in need of some help. Funds are running low and the altar will be empty of flowers the weeks in which no one has signed up. Please see the flower calendar on the bulletin board and sign up today. Also, feel free to make a donation to the WOMEN OF WELCA.

St. Paul Council Highlights Here are the highlights of the April 21, 2015 meeting. Full copies of the minutes are available on the narthex table.

Concern was shared about the exceptionally high electric bills. Renee has researched our rates and found that we are on the best plan available. We need to be more conservative in our use.

Property issues being addressed: light out behind the cross in the sanctuary; possibly fixing the east entrance door; water pressure in the parsonage bathroom.

A carpeting fund has been established for future replacement of the carpeting in the fellowship hall, offices, classrooms, narthex and hallway.

An electric sanctuary lamp (eternal candle) has been ordered to replace the existing candle-burning lamp. A letter of thanks will be sent to Mr. Joe Hale for his year of dedicated contributions of candles.

…and from May 19, 2015

It was noted that the warmer weather has decreased the electric bill.

The Otto Jacob Trust Fund accounting has been filed with the court as prescribed by the fund.

The Audit Committee’s question about the Women’s Group finances has been resolved.

Property issues being addressed: o A date will be set to fix the roof on the shed at the parsonage; o The Committee is planning a time to fix the light behind the cross.

It was decided to ask for donations to cover St. Paul’s share of the expenses for the Shared Ministry anniversary celebration ($373.21); $250 was committed by members of council.

It was agreed to allow the Paulding FFA to use St. Paul’s parking lot for a farmer’s market this summer; further details pending.

It was decided to partner with Harbor Career Connections and hire Mr. Mike Hernandez, a disabled adult, to fold bulletins and newsletters.

Agreed to promote the carpet and carillon fund in the newsletter and bulletins.

******* St. John Council Highlights The Council met on April 20, 2015. Here are some of the highlights of that meeting.

The date for the June Ice Cream Social was set for Saturday, June 27, 2015.

May 17 was set as the date to celebrate the completion of the Confirmation program with Confirmed member, Mary Cate Panico. WELCA will provide cake and punch for a reception.

Council agreed to purchase a new, standing Advent wreath from memorial funds.

The organ was repaired; it was suggested that we schedule a maintenance appointment every two years.

Council decided to seek bids for insurance as our insurance rates seem a bit high.

Next Council meeting is scheduled for July 20; congregation meeting July 26.
