BELONGING IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD
Although the parable today is about who properly
oversees the work of the Kingdom of God, we can
easily shift the focus to who belongs within it and how
must those who belong behave. This includes every
one of us. Saint Paul provides this helpful list of
suitable actions. Do what is truthful, honorable, just,
pure, lovely, and gracious. He ends with, “Keep on
doing what you have learned and received and
heard.”
What truth that needs telling will I speak this
week?
What just thing will I think and then do?
How will I be gracious to those I meet, with those I
work, with those with whom I live?

EMAIL SCAM
Several reports of email scams have been brought to our attention. The emails have been written in a
compelling way that the email addresses of the senders were not visually verified and responses
were sent. Perhaps this is a reminder that when someone you know asks you to email them back and
sounding desperate to perhaps check the sender’s email address. The scammers have become more
intelligent in acquiring the tone of how we write as clergy.

New General Directory for Catechesis is ready for preorder | See poster This third edition of the Directory for Catechesis (2020), prepared by the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization, “offers fundamental theological-pastoral principles and some general guidelines that are relevant for the practice of catechesis in our time” (p. 15) Updated in part to address the rise of the digital culture and to incorporate the reflections on the recurrent theme of evangelization from synods of the past decade, the Directory is divided in three parts:

Recovering Together
Did you know? 265 million people could face starvation by the end of 2020. The economic fallout from COVID could push an additional half a billion people into poverty. Only 1 in 5 people in low-income countries are covered by safety net programs. And it is the most vulnerable and marginalized, such as refugees, women and Indigenous Peoples, who will disproportionately suffer the worst impacts. We are at a critical juncture for our common home. We must come together to pray for and support a global recovery to the pandemic that moves us towards a more sustainable and equitable future for all.

Reflection: Diocese of Springfield
2. White Mass with Bishop McGrattan On October 16, CCMA will have their annual White Mass for Catholic Health Care Workers with Bishop McGrattan. It is usually on the feast day of St. Luke, but because that falls on a Sunday this year, they will have it on the feast of Ste. Marguerite D’Youville who started the Grey Nuns and who care for the sick across Canada. Bishop McGrattan will give an address after the Mass. When: Friday, October 16 at 7 pm. 3. Canadian Federation of Catholic Physicians and Societies taking place on Saturday, Oct. 17 & Sunday Oct.18. The topic for the virtual conference this year is "Wonderfully Made: Technology for Patient Care", emphasizing how medical technology can affirm the dignity and worth of human life at every stage. 4. Exploring your temperament How do you know know the difference between personality and temperament? Vivens Academy invites you to join an online course "Dynamic Self-Understanding: Exploring Your Temperament" - where you will overview some important temperament models, and set you up to grow from an understanding of your own tendencies. 5. 2021 World Day of Communications The theme for the 2021 World Day of Social Communications chosen by Pope Francis echo the words of the Apostle Philip, so as to recall that communication consists in "encountering people as and where they are". The theme is: “Come and see” (Jn 1,46). Communicating, encountering people as and where they are. "In the epochal change we are experiencing, in a time that obliges us to social distance due to the pandemic, communication can enable the closeness that is necessary to recognize what is essential, and to truly understand the meaning of things. We do not know the truth if we do not experience it, if we do not meet people, if we do not participate in their joys and sorrows. The old saying “God meets you where you are” can be a guide for those engaged in media or communications work in the Church. In the call of the first disciples, with Jesus who went to encounter them and to invite them to follow Him, we also see the invitation to use all media, in all their forms, to reach people as they are and where they live." 7. Mural helps Alberta indigenous artist reconcile a difficult past Through a commission to paint murals at three Catholic schools, 36-year-old Blackfoot from the Siksika Nation artist Ryan Willert has been able to find his own healing and reconciliation with the Catholic community. Read more
8. Jesus never said "Be true to yourself" The world tells us “you be you,” but Jesus didn’t die so that I could just be me … he died so that I could become like him. Dr. Sri argues how much more freeing and incredible it is to follow the call of the Christian Gospel, which shows us how we are most true to ourselves when we die to ourselves and “put on Christ.” Read more
9. How to accompany someone through a hard time? We talk about how to journey with each other through hardships and offer the powerful gift of presence. Walking through suffering with each other is sacred ground, so we need to learn how to become a compassionate presence and honour the vulnerability in others, while also being vulnerable ourselves. Spiritual Centre of Peace, Healing and Prayer
Mount St. Francis Retreat Centre is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains where
are all welcome in the name of Christ. The Franciscan Friars of Canada, inspired by the vision
and example of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi, have served here since 1949.
We offer silent retreats and spiritual direction. We also serve those in the 12 Step Program
through weekend and evening Serenity retreats. We listen to 5th steps. We host groups and
individuals seeking a place of quiet and stillness in an often hectic world. We can
accommodate up to 50 people (46 rooms/50 beds). We have one large and one small
meeting room, a library and chapel. We can accommodate most dietary restrictions. There
are approximately 500 acres to explore.
Our retreats are organized through a group of dedicated volunteer Captains that oversee the
registration. Please see our retreats page for more information.
We have strong ties with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary; other Christian Churches,
schools and organizations; as well as others not affiliated with any particular faith but who
are in accord with our mission of peace, healing and prayer. We value the many loyal friends
and benefactors that have supported us in our ministry for over 70 years.
