In biblical times there was only one way to control the disease: Isolate the person with leprosy from all aspects of society. Those with leprosy were cut off from everything: family, friends, employment and worship. No one would dare to approach them and they dared approach no one. Both readings use this dreaded disease to point up the power of God to work wonders through ordinary means. Only one of the men cured by Jesus had the decency to go back and thank him. Only one of them fully realized what had taken place. His is the complete healing, his is the deepest faith. This man, a Samaritan, was an outcast due to both his leprosy and his ethnic background. Luke uses this story to point out the ingratitude of Jesus’ own people in contrast to the gratitude and faith of Gentiles. -Archdiocese of Detroit, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Troy, Michigan Patrick Okenyi, S. Report from Parish Health Council You should carry a list of all your medications in case of sudden illness or accident. You should know the name and purpose of every medication the doctor has prescribed and take them as ordered. For instance if the doctor has ordered an antibiotic 4 times a day for 7 days you shouldn’t stop taking it after 4 days because you start to feel better. This practice has led to the rise in antibiotic resistance so the antibiotic will be less effective next time you need it. It may be time to clean out your medicine cupboard and get rid of outdated prescriptions or over the counter medications that have gone past the best before date .Never dispose of liquids down the sink or toilet as they will eventually make their way into our water supply. All narcotics, injectables and other tablets can be returned to a pharmacy that will safely dispose of them. The city has a TOXIC TAXI that will pick up toxic waste and also has a toxic waste disposal site where you can drop off items. Call 311 to make arrangements for pick-up or drop off.

Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday - Every parish across the globe will celebrate this event. It is a global sign of the Universal Church and mission. On this day, Pope Francis invites all Catholics to contribute to a special collection for the Propagation of the Faith. Your support will help missionaries in proclaiming the Gospel of joy and peace around the world. Please join in this special day that unites Catholics from all over the world through prayer and care for the Church’s mission. Your donations will support churches, hospitals, schools and train seminarians and religious Brothers and Sisters in Asia, Africa, Latin America, Pacific Island and some of our Canadian dioceses. “When I was hungry you gave me to eat” Thanksgiving reminds us of how fortunate most of us are to have enough to eat. The Beatitudes reminds us that many are not as fortunate. In the spirit of Thanksgiving and sharing, you are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the Inner City Home when you attend Mass on Thanksgiving weekend. Items can be placed in the basket which will be in front of the altar.

St. Patrick's Parish will once again participate in the Giving Tree Campaign. Parishioners interested in brightening Christmas, for those less fortunate in our Parish, are invited to a meeting on Thursday, October 17th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Parish Upper Hall. Please note that this is a committee for which a small time commitment is required. Call or text Maurizio Visentin, at 249-878-8610, for more information.

PERFUME & SCENT ALERT! A number of our parishioners are very sensitive to fragrances from perfumes, colognes & lotions. They can set off serious allergic reactions. We ask that people refrain from using them when coming to Masses so that all will feel welcome and safe. A small sacrifice for others! Thank you!
