Prayer for the Month—June 2020
Father, here I am.
I know you are always with me. I place my heart in the Heart of your Son Jesus, who gives himself to us in the Eucharist each day.
May your Holy Spirit strengthen me to live the Gospel in everything I do and say. For my part I give you this day–all my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings–all I am and possess.
With Mary, mother of the Church, I pray for the mission of the Church, for all Apostles of Prayer, and for the intentions of the Pope this month. Amen.

More than 160 years ago, the people of Saint John built a great cathedral. Built during years of religious tensions; waves of Irish immigrants pouring into the province; a cholera epidemic; and a country on the verge of Confederation, the Cathedral was a testament to the determination of a young city to thrive. It stood as the highest structure for miles around – a beacon reminding the people of their Irish heritage.
We are determined to secure our heritage for generations to come.
Restoration projects
For the first time in generations, the cathedral’s 24,000-square-foot roof was replaced. This was a major priority to prevent further damage to the cathedral’s interior due to water infiltration.
The original plaster ceiling had suffered. As a result, scaffolding in the cathedral's interior has been installed. This provides a protective temporary "ceiling." This allows a regular schedule of worship and other events to continue at the cathedral.

As people arrive for Mass this weekend, you are asked to follow all the
instructions of the ushers. The ushers will be checking names so contact
traces can be made if necessary (we are required to maintain a record of
people entering our buildings), and they will be guiding you to the pews and
for Communion, and at the end of Mass for the dismissal. Given the need for
social distancing, and the limit to the number of people permitted to enter the
churches (a limit taking into account space and the requirement for Social
Distancing), people will be seated in the first available pew from the front as
they arrive - this eliminates the need to walk around in search of an empty
pew which are not so easy to spot due to the spacing.
If there are members of your ‘Family and Friends Bubble’ who will be
arriving later, please indicate this information to the ushers.
