Welcome! We, the parish community of St. Michael Catholic
Church in Van Buren, Arkansas, know that we are part of the
Body of Christ. Our call is to make Christ present in our own
lives and the lives of those with whom we encounter. We do this
through prayer, the celebration of the sacraments, religious
education, and the example of our lives of faith, hope, and love.
S T. M I C H A E L CAT H O L I C C H U R C H
Jesus said to him in reply, "What do you want me to do for you?"
The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see." Jesus told
him, "Go your way; your faith has saved you." Immediately he
received his sight and followed him on the way. - Mk 10:51-52
camino. - Mc 10, 51-52

Prayer to St. Michael
Saint Michael the Archangel defend us in
battle. Be our safeguard against the
wickedness and snares of the devil. May
God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do you
O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of
God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil
spirits, who prowl throughout the world
seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.
Oración a San Miguel
San Miguel Arcángel defiéndenos en la
batalla.
Amen.

they can be included in the book correctly. Envelopes may be turned in

Prayers for the Feast of All Saints Day
“God our Father, source of all holiness, the work of Your hands is manifest
in Your saints, the beauty of Your truth is reflected in their faith. May we
who aspire to have part in their joy be filled with the spirit that blessed their
lives, so that having shared their faith on earth may we also know their
peace in your kingdom. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.”
The month of November is dedicated to the Poor Souls in Purgatory:
On all the days from November 1 through 8 inclusive, a plenary
indulgence, applicable only to the Poor Souls, is granted to those who
visit a cemetery and pray, Indulgences draw from the spiritual treasury
of the Church, offering the souls spiritual graces for the remission of the
temporal punishment due to their sins which have been forgiven.
Indulgences are prayers or actions which merit the reduction of temporal
punishment due to make reparation, healing the wounds of the past. In
obtaining these indulgences a person, properly disposed, applies these
from the treasury of satisfactions of Christ and the saints, which may be
either partial or plenary. The requirements are: 1) Sacramental
Confession: 2) Eucharistic Communion: 3) Prayer for the intention of the
Pontiff; this condition is fully satisfied by reciting one Creed, Our Father
and one Hail Mary. It is further required that all Attachment to Sin, even
venial sin, be absent for a plenary indulgence. If this disposition is in any
way less than perfect or if the prescribed three conditions are not
fulfilled, the indulgence will be partial only.
Prayer for your dear ones in Purgatory: “O most gentle Heart of Jesus, ever
present in the Blessed Sacrament, ever consumed with burning love for the
poor captive souls in Purgatory, have mercy on the souls of our departed
friends and relatives (especially those who were near and dear to us in life).
Bring them far from the shadow of exile to the bright home of Heaven
where, we trust, You and Your Blessed Mother have woven for them a crown
of unfading bliss. Amen.”
Holy Souls Commemoration: Sunday, November 4th at 11:30 a.m. at St.
Mary’s Cemetery in Chaffee, 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery. 3:30 p.m. at
Holy Cross Cemetery.

toiletries for our church blessing box Oct. 10- Nov. 14. Please be

Stewardship a Way of Life: It was many years ago, but I remember it as
if it was yesterday. Before most good basketball players left college
early for the NBA draft, the Duke Blue Devils won back-to-back
championships in men's basketball. The morning after the second
championship, I drove to the campus bookstore in order to be one of the
first to purchase commemorative T-shirts: one for me and several more
for my parents and wife. A crowd was at the door of the store when I
arrived, long before it was open for business. When I finally walked
inside, I looked around and saw one shirt I liked. I walked over to it, and
as I got close to reaching out to pick it up, a little old lady literally ran
into me, spun me around, grabbed the shirt, and shrieked, "It's mine!" As
if there was only one shirt in the entire store! Neither of us were entitled
to that shirt. In fact, we aren't entitled to much in this life. Rather than
searching to get what we think we deserve or trying to beat out others for
a better position in this world, our God calls us to focus on helping others
to experience the many gifts available to them in this life. We are called
to serve instead of being served. Our mission is to sacrifice ourselves
and what we desire on this earth for the Kingdom of God. If we are
willing to essentially assault someone to get to a T-shirt, what will we do
when the stakes are higher? After my initial shock, I wasn't angry with
that lady at Duke. After all, I would like to think that if she simply asked
me for it I would have given it to her. At least, I hope I would have. --

(501) 766-6001.
If you held a mirror up to your life, would it reflect
God’s love and mercy? If you are struggling with this,
try changing your attitude from “I want more” to
“thank you God for everything you have given me, I
have enough to share”. This change in perspective
will bring you joy through service to others.

daba. Bueno, eso espero... – Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS

We are a stewardship parish. Stewardship is a response.
It is gratitude, expressed.
Stewardship is discipleship.
It is action taken with warmth and care.
It is prayer —and active trust.
Stewardship is the belief that my life isn’t about me; it’s about God.
And it’s about seeking His will and making choices according to that belief.
It’s more than momentary sadness for others’ plight; it’s being moved to action.
It’s more than fleeting thanksgiving; it’s daily joy for the multitude of gifts given daily.
Stewardship is heart put into each day and taken one step at a time.
Stewardship says, “I see that I’ve been blessed, and I want- I need- to be a blessing to others.”
