Dear St. Matthew Parish Community,

Wednesday, August 15, the Solemnity of the ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, is a Holy Day of Obligation.

Masses will be at 6:30am (English), 12:30pm (English), 6:00pm (English) and

7:30pm (Spanish). When we speak of Days of Obligation, we should be careful not to see these as burdens, which the term might suggest. The Catechism of the Catholic Church describes such “obligations” of the Church as "the very necessary minimum in the spirit of prayer and moral effort, in the growth in love of God and neighbor." These are things that, as Christians, Catholics should WANT to do anyway; the Church lists days of obligation among the Precepts of the Church as a way to remind of our constant need to grow in holiness. The Collect (Opening Prayer) for the Mass of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary beautifully describes our growth in holiness as an awesome opportunity to follow the Blessed Mother’s own example of holiness in this and every way. Cuando hablamos de Días de Obligación, debemos tener cuidado de no ver estos como cargas, ya que el termino “obligación” es lo que nos podría sugerir. El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica describe a las "obligaciones" de la Iglesia como "el mínimo necesario en el espíritu de oración y esfuerzo moral, en el crecimiento del amor a Dios y al prójimo". Estas son cosas que, como cristianos, los católicos deberíamos hacer de todos modos; la Iglesia enumera los días de obligación entre los Preceptos de la Iglesia como una forma de recordar nuestra constante necesidad de crecer en santidad. La Oración Colecta (Oración de Apertura) para la Misa de la solemnidad de la Asunción de la Santísima Virgen María describe maravillosamente nuestro crecimiento en santidad como una gran oportunidad para seguir el ejemplo de santidad de la Santísima Madre de esta y de todas las formas

Es un programa de estudio básico de teología para laicos a lo largo de cuatro años con temas de Sacramentos, Sagrada Escritura, Eclesiología, Teología Fundamental, Teología Moral, Escatología, Cristología , Mariología.
