Novena to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception will begin on November 30th. (insert in bulletin)

What is a Novena? A Novena is made up of nine days of prayer and meditation to ask God for special prayer requests or petitions. All you need to do is say the daily prayer with a sincere heart. It is not necessary to pray at the same time everyday; and if you miss a day; you can either: skip the day you missed altogether, or say the prayer twice in one day. There are no “Rules” and there are no “consequences” God is forgiving and merciful!

Famous Converts – Wild Bill Cody Dear Family,

Here is the second installment of Famous Converts. Enjoy! I’ll keep

looking for more.

William F. Cody was born in Scott County,

Iowa in 1846. At age 14, Cody joined the Pony

Express for the advertised position: "skinny,

expert riders willing to risk death daily." After

serving in the American Civil War, he began

buffalo hunting to feed crews building railroads

which gave him his nickname, Buffalo Bill Wild

Cody. He estimates he killed 4,280 buffalo in

just over a year and a half. He became a

national folk hero because of the dime-novel

exploits of his alter ego, “Buffalo Bill.”

In 1883, Cody founded his own show,

"Buffalo Bill's "Wild West," which was a circus-

like show that toured for three decades in the

United States and later in Europe. Besides

Buffalo Bill himself, the Wild West show starred sharpshooter Annie Oakley

and, briefly, Chief Sitting Bull.

When Chief Sitting Bowl was hired in Buffalo Bill’s show, the two men

became friends and their relationship became quite close based upon mutual

respect. Buffalo Bill was intrigued by Chief Sitting Bull’s own conversion

to Catholicism a few years earlier through the courageous Jesuit missionaries

to the Sioux Indians. A few years after leaving the Wild West Show the

Famous Indian chief was shot dead in a tussle on the reservation.

Twenty-seven years later, while visiting his sister, Bill Cody lay dying

outside Denver, CO. The day before he died he converted to the Catholic

faith. He told the priest that he had always believed in God but wanted to

die a Catholic. He was inspired by the faith of Sitting Bull in his conversion

and the example of his family.

Buffalo Bill’s conversion to Catholicism teaches us the power of

authentic Christ-like witness through friendship. Time is not the measure of

the good that comes from being a true witness. The simplest action and

example today can be the means to another's salvation tomorrow.

You never know who our Lord might bring into your presence with the

express purpose that you touch that person’s life by the way you make

visible your faith. It could be someone famous; who knows!

God bless and Mary keep you…AND Happy Thanksgiving!!!

The "Moments with Mary” key fobs and

bracelets will be available for sale after

Mass. They are beautiful! The Women on a

Mission group put them together as a great reminder to get

in touch with our Blessed Mother on a regular basis

throughout the day. Children's bracelets $5.00 and adult

bracelets & fobs are $10.00. Great for Christmas presents!

The money raised will be used to support our future efforts

to provide meaningful programs and projects of learning and

growth opportunities for the women of St. Mary's. God

Bless you All for supporting this Mission!

At our next meeting, December 3, we will be doing a craft activity for

the homebound of the parish.

Our Mission is to provide an environment of learning, giving and loving

to enhance the fellowship and growth of the women’s faith community

of St. Mary’s

HOOKED ON LOVE Candy canes are up and ready to be selected. The holiday season

is a time of loving and giving. We are asking you to add another one to your giving list. Yes,

most of us have decided to limit our spending this year. We are asking you to take a moment

to think about the struggling families with small babies in Portage County. Think of the joy

baby supplies will give them. You would like to give but have no idea how to do it. With

Hooked on Love we try to make sharing your love easier. At the entrances of the church are Christmas tree displays with color-coded candy canes attached. The

color of the ribbon indicates the cost of the suggested item to give-- RED RIBBONS ($1-$3 suggestions),

WHITE RIBBONS ($5.00 suggestions), and GREEN RIBBONS ($10 or more suggestions). SCRIP

grocery, gas or Target gifts certificates can be purchased. We accept any monetary donations, (Mark it as

Baby Supplies) and drop it in the church collection. Baby and mother items will be donated to the Portage

County Prenatal Care Coordination Program and First Choice Pregnancy Resource Center. Items in high

demand this year are diapers size Newborn and size 1, wipes and sleepers/onesies size 0-3 or 3-6 months.Put

your items in the Baby Stroller at the entrance of church or box in the addition.

WANTED NAMES OF PEOPLE THAT COULD USE EXTRA Baby Supplies! If you know of anyone

in the parish or area who could use help with baby supplies contact Marie Helminiak (715-592-4971) and

leave a message on the recorder before Dec. 15th. Names will be kept confidential.

Br. James Miller to be Beatified

On Thursday, November 8, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis authorized the beatification of Stevens Point native Br. James Miller. He was shot to death on February 13, 1982 in Guatemala outside the school where he taught. We give thanks to the Holy Father and congratulate the Christian Brothers for Br. James Miller’s heroic witness to his Faith.

Thanks to the tremendous generosity of our

parishioners and guests, we were able to

deliver 48 Caring Bags to those less fortunate

than us. A big thank you to Bernie and Marie

for sewing all the bags. Our speaker, Dee

Ruetten, opened our eyes to many of the

needs of people right here in Portage County

and how various organizations are providing

assistance.

The potluck will follow the

4 p.m. Saturday Mass,

which will be celebrated at

St. Mary’s.

O Mary, Most Holy, conceived without sin and all pure before the sight of the Most High

God, we beseech Thee to have mercy on us and on our nation.

Look with loving eyes upon the plight of your children who implore Your powerful protection.

The wicked serpent continues to wage war against God, against You and against the Holy

Catholic Church and every good thing in society. The devil lays snares of confusion and

deceit to lead souls along the path of perdition. The culture of death continues to attack the

sanctity of life, marriage and the family.

Yet, from the very instant of Your conception, You, our Blessed Mother, Our Queen and

Our Advocate, crushed the head of the diabolical enemy. At this moment, receive this prayer

that we present to You before the throne of God. May we never fall into the snares of the

devil; may we always follow the path of virtue and true courage toward our true home in

Heaven. May the Holy Catholic Church obtain victory over the forces of evil and may the

peace of Christ come down upon our souls, our nation and all peoples.

Obtain for us, O Virgin Most Pure, the grace of angelic purity which was Your favorite virtue.

Grant us purity of heart so that we will seek God alone in all things. Provide for us the grace

of purity of intention so that every thought, every word and every action in our daily lives be

directed to the greater glory of Your Divine Son.

Obtain for us a participation in Your spirit of prayer, in Your humility and in Your self-denial.

May we truly live the Fatima message of prayer, penance and conversion. May we recover

through penance that innocence lost by sin and become more faithful and more united to the

Will of God.

O Dear Mother, grant us unlimited Hope amid the current situation in our nation. Grant us

an increasing love of Truth amid the lies and confusion of our times. Obtain for us from Your

Divine Son greater Faith and growing Charity toward God and toward others.

Through Your grace and assistance, may we seek in all things the glory of God, the

salvation of souls, and what is best for our beloved nation.

Hear our pleas, O Mother of Mercy, and hasten the triumph of Your Immaculate Heart as

you promised in Fatima 100 years ago. And may You, the Immaculate Conception, crush

once and for all the head of the wicked serpent and his followers. Amen

To be recited for nine consecutive days.
