Dear Parishioners,
I am writing this letter to say how much we miss you and are eager to see all our parishioners back at St Mary Church once it is safe to do so. We are certainly praying for each of you that everyone remains safe and under the care of Our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ. I also wish each of you a belated Happy Easter!
These have certainly been trying days beginning when we closed our church on March 15th. Since that time, we have learned so much about the Corona virus and the need for social distancing. When we receive notification from Governor Cuomo de-claring it is safe to open St Mary Church for daily and Sunday Masses, there will be several directives we will need to follow in order that all the faithful of our parish re-main at a safe distance from each other. We have been asked to remind the parishion-ers of St Mary that every other pew will be used for seating and then parishioners will be seated at least six feet apart in the pews designated for seating. Face masks will al-so be needed in church. These are difficult times and we will need to follow these di-rectives until further notice.
Many people have been asking about the celebration of Baptism and Marriag-es. While the current thinking is that it might be possible to begin scheduling bap-tisms sometime in June or during the summer, it is too early to tell. Again, the direc-tives of state and city officials regarding gatherings will be observed. At times, wed-dings must take place and not be postponed. Weddings may take place maintaining proper social distancing, with the church’s minister, the bride and groom, and two witnesses. Pre-cana classes may be found on-line.
As more time goes by and more information becomes available future direc-tives and guidelines will be communicated. Please be assured of our prayers for all our parishioners during our daily private Masses. Stay safe and we are hoping for a safe re-opening of St. Mary Church. We are waiting for necessary equipment to arrive in order to live-stream Holy Mass from St Mary Church via our new web site. In the meantime, I am keeping up with the chores, food shopping and cooking. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, expectant mothers, grandmothers, and great grand-mothers of our parish.

MAY 10 2020 Of course the main point of the Gospel Story is Jesus admonition to Philip: have I been with you for so long a time and still you do not know me. Could we not apply this to ourselves? Could we not think of those times when Jesus was with us and we did not know him? Does not Jesus sometimes say: I was with you when you thought you could never pass those exams in school? And I was with you when you finally succeeded, even though you thought you had succeeded on your own. And then do we not hear him say: I was with you during those nervous moments just before your wedding, when you were having the temptation to back down? And I was with you during those beautiful early months of your marriage, even though you took credit for the joy yourself. Isn’t that voice of Jesus piercing in your heart: And I was with you when you were terrified at the thought of a re-versal in your health? And I was with you when you became resigned to your illness, even though you took credit for it yourself. Jesus is still speaking to us when he says: Yes. I was with you when you thought all was lost. And I was with you when you thought that you didn't need me. Let me come in. You need me.
