Pastor’s Corner !Sunday, April 21, 2018!

!! !This Sunday is a salute to our young people, as we celebrate both “Scout Sun-day” and “Vocation Sun-day.” In addition, on Satur-day many of our children made their First Holy Com-munion at the parish. But this weekend is also a time

to honor those “shepherds” who guide our young people; our parents, pastors, teachers, and Scout Leaders. Sadly, due to the actions of a few bad apples, these good and faithful shepherds have become the unsung heroes of our families, churches, and community. Let’s remem-ber them in our prayers and honor them as well. !! My congratulations to our First Holy Communicants who met the Good Shepherd, our Lord, Jesus in a new and wonderful way on Saturday! I have great compassion for our young families as they struggle to hold together the “communion” of family life. Although family life has always had its challenges, it seems that today it is even more diffi-cult. The words of Jesus in our gospel today speak to this; "the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice. They will not follow a stranger; they will run away from him." I pray that on this happy day we can invite God into our hearts and homes even more deeply. Af-ter all, we are His pilgrim people; not perfect…just forgiven! Let continue to become what we eat; the Body of Christ! See you in church! !! Peace, !

!Pope Francis believes that the world needs a true understanding that the gift of work makes the world more fruitful and hospita-ble. He reminds us that the Holy Family appears as a family of workers, and Jesus himself was

referred to as “the son of a carpenter”. He criti-cized the lifestyle of those who refuse to work, observing that St. Paul in his Second Letter to the Thessalonians says, “Whoever does not work should not eat”. Pope Francis speaks about the balance between work and the spiritual life. He said that the two are not opposed, but go hand in hand, since work expresses the dignity of the hu-man person, created in God’s image. Prayer and work can and should go together in harmony. The lack of work damages the spirit, just as the lack of prayer damages every practical activity. !!

It is that time again to release a current

photo directory for St. Mary of the

Lake parishioners. The first of three

sessions will be July 30!August 2. We

are excited to be able to offer family

photos with pets If you like. This will be a nice op-

portunity to take pictures that you can have forever.

Further information on the directory will be availa-

ble in bulletin articles and flyers. We are in need of

volunteers to help with signing families up after

Masses to reserve time slots. If you can assist with

only need to stay about a half hour after the Mass

I attended the retreat not knowing

what to expect. I went to the week-

end with an open mind and open

heart. I left the weekend with a

new attitude and new outlook on

life. I consider myself to be a rea-

sonably positive person, but what I

experienced and felt was totally unexpected. At the

retreat, we read scripture, told about our personal

struggles, sang songs, and shared food. As the sto-

ries about struggles were shared, I reflected on my

own life and truly didn’t realize that I wasn’t the only

one with similar personal issues. If you have been

thinking about participating, my recommendation

to you is this: DO IT...I would hope that after the

weekend, you will have a new outlook on life just as I

did. � !
