I did not consider religious life unl my elementary school principal asked: “Have you ever thought of being a Sister?” Around age 13, I began my journey of deeper prayer, parcularly in front of the Blessed Sacrament. When I met the Sisters of Our Lady Immaculate, I remember the joy and peace they radiated! I was aracted to their charism to live with joy following in the footsteps of Our Lady, seeking to love all the days of their lives.” Sr. Maria Immaculata of Sisters of Our Lady Immaculate Respect Life Corner—In the First Reading from Sirach, 27:30-28:7, Sirach mulls over the difficulty we often face in forgiving a wrong and holding a grudge, even as we ask the Lord to forgive us. That holding on to sin and engaging in wrath and anger separates us from the joy God has promised us and can ultimately separate us from Him. Sirach reminds us how important it is to let hard feelings go and to pray for those who hurt you. Of course, your dignity and the dignity of others must be respected. It is imperative to be in just relations with those in your life, free of any form of abuse or neglect. Learn, Act, Connect and Pray-Take a moment to prayerfully look back at your week and recall the times that you may have been hurt, or you may have hurt others. Pray for that situation and if possible, talk to the other person and make amends. By asking for forgiveness and offering forgiveness, we help build up God’s kingdom here on earth. “Lord, open my heart to those around me. Help me to be who you desire me to be. Guide me to act in love and concern for those in my life and those around me. Amen.” ST. MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH Est. 1853 1171 Jefferson St., PO Box 179, Carlyle, IL 62231 Fr. SPRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus,

I believe that you are present in the Most Blessed Sacrament,

I love you above all things and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now, receive you sacramentally,

Come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace you as if you were already there,

And unite myself wholly to you.

Never permit me to be separated from you.

Amen.

Prayer for Safety of All in Agriculture

Blessed Mary, Mother of God, and great Saint Joseph, you protected and kept safe the Divine Child, Jesus. We ask your special intercession and protection of all who work in Agriculture, especially on the farm. Man, having been cast out of the Garden of Eden, must now work by the sweat of his brow to get food to eat as you foretold in Genesis. And he must also battle fatigue, danger, and accidents. Protect all in agriculture against these and all danger and evil, so that when they complete their work each day and each season, they return to your altar and their families whole and entire to love and honor You and the ones you have given them all the days of their lives. We ask through the holy name of Jesus. Amen. Liturgy for the Week…

Faith Formation: Registration packets have been mailed. PSR will begin Oct. 7. Please return those ASAP. Check out our new Facebook page and request us as a friend: StMary Carlyle for more info. You will find this icon with the page. Thank you!

Catholic Parishes begin RCIA Each year the Catholic parishes in the area sponsor the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). This is an adult education program directed toward anyone interested in or wishing to inquire about the Catholic faith community. The process is an intense series of meetings culminating at Easter. Persons interested in learning more about the Catholic faith are invited to contact the parish priest by calling the parish office in their town. Sessions are scheduled to begin on September 14. Health and safety protocols will be observed.

Cantor Trainings Available.

Cantor Trainings are currently held one hour before Mass on Saturday and Sunday. All cantor trainees have their own personal music packets, and do not share music books or binders with other singers. All stands and microphones are disinfected after each use. Social distancing is maintained during practice. New singers do not have to sing solo until they are comfortable. Youth singers and adult singers are welcome. Anyone interested in training to be a cantor, please contact Eric at 618-420-4567 for more information.

The Carlyle Knights of Columbus Council 1382 would like to thank the members of St. Mary and St. Teresa Parish for your generous contributions to the baby shower. All proceeds have been given to the Pregnancy Care Center in Centralia for the benefits of their programs.

Hello,

Welcome to Wade Henry Mioux (Parents: Nicholas & Kaitlin) as we baptize him this Sunday, September 13th. With the help of parents, godparents and all of us, may Wade grow strong in age, wisdom and grace.

We extend our sympathy to the family of Barbara Carman, Mindy Gustafson’s mother, who died this past week. May she enjoy the peace of God’s kingdom.

If you or anyone you know is interested in joining the Catholic Church, please give us a call at the office and we will get in touch with you. We are still finalizing how we “do the RCIA” in this Covid-19 era.

A few have suggested that it would be good to have the 8am Mass as a possibility. I agree. The numbers at present who are coming to the “live liturgies” are not yet above 100 at the 4pm (Sat) and 10am (Sun). However, before resuming the 8am, we need parishioners who are not or do not feel “compromised” health-wise to welcome and sign-up, usher and sanitize afterwards for the 8am. (By the way, St. Teresa, Marydale, does have an 8am Sunday morning liturgy.) Please call Tiffany if you are willing and able to help before, during and after the 8am. We need a couple of crews to help with that extra Mass. Each crew would consist of 3 ushers and 2 sanitizers. Clean up takes 10-15 minutes and is pretty simple. Any questions, please call Tiffany.

To view the “on line” Mass @ St. Mary, Carlyle, which is “live streamed” every Saturday, @ 4pm, simply go to the parish web site and look under helpful links. Choose the date you would like to view and hit play. If you wish to watch it “live”, please request us as a friend on Facebook. We will post updates on both sites as new information becomes available. We will continue to “live stream” until further notice. You can also view the Mass every Sunday on Channel 11 @ 8:30am.

I am now in the Reconciliation Room from 3:00 – 3:30pm on Saturdays. Please enter and exit through the East door of Church. Thank you!

THANK YOU for supporting St. Mary through on-line giving, or mail or dropping off your envelope at the mailbox at the Parish Center or now at Church when attending. Remember to support St. Catarina in Guatemala…we’ll send a check at the end of the month.

24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Forgive your neighbor’s injustice, then when you pray, your own sins will be forgiven.” Sirach 28:2”

Whenever we forgive from the heart we build a bridge over we must pass on our way from earth to heaven. For each of us is a sinner. And the only way can pass from earth to heaven is over the bridge of God’s forgiveness. Jesus said, “If you forgive others,” Jesus said, “your Father in heaven will also forgive you.” (Matt. 6:14) In other words the surest insurance policy against the loss of heaven is to forgive others from the heart. Jesus’ words invite me to recall someone who has hurt me and to consciously forgive that person now. – Mark Link, SJ “To err is human, to forgive divine.” Alexander Pope
