THANK YOU With the Christmas season coming to a close, I’d like to take this opportunity
to say a HUGE thank you to everyone that was able to help us with the 2016 Giving Tree and Christmas Basket programs. Our parish helped 32 families that needed food assistance and 24 families that needed help with gifts and necessities. In total, we were able to help families from our parish, Pinckney Schools, our local community, as well as 3 agencies. None of it would have been possible without the amazing generosity of our parish, school and faith formation communities. Every need and request was met and our food collection was extremely abundant. Extra thanks goes to the Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus, Trish Liebert and the Faith Formation classes, Mike and Mary our custodial staff, Bob and Cathy Phipps, Dick and Sue Cowdrey, Dennis and Chris Wysocki and Judy Jentzen. Last, but not least, Heather Shamp and Kim Hogan for all the extra time and effort they put in to help make these programs work. Our parish, may be smaller in size, but we are mighty and strong. Together, we really were the body of Christ to those in need. May each and every one of you be blessed in the coming New Year. Thank you very, very much!

Blessing of the Home on Epiphany
The Blessing of the home and inscription of initials of
the three Magi above each door can be performed by
either a priest or the head of the family.
The feast of manifestation, or Epiphany, is traditionally
celebrated on the 12th day after Christmas, January 6th.
In the dioceses of the United States this feast has been
moved to the Sunday between January 2nd & January
8th.
On entering the home:
Leader: (Priest if present, or head of the family)
Peace be to this house.
Leader: And to all who dwell herein.
All: From the east came the Magi to Bethlehem to
adore the Lord; and opening their treasures they
offered precious gifts: gold for the great King, incense
for the true God, and myrrh in symbol of His burial.
Leader: Our Father…And lead us not into
temptation.
All: But deliver us from evil.
Leader: All they from Sheba shall come.
All: Bringing gold & frankincense.
Leader: O, Lord, hear my prayer.
All: And let my cry come to You.
Leader: Let us pray. O God, who by the guidance of
a start didst on this day manifest Thine only begotten
Son to the Gentiles, mercifully grant that we who
know Thee by faith may also attain the vision of Thy
glorious majesty. Through Christ Our Lord.
All: Amen.
Leader: Be enlightened, be enlightened, O Jerusalem,
for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen
upon thee – Jesus Christ born of the Virgin Mary.
All: And the Gentiles shall walk in thy light and kings
in the splendor of thy rising, and the glory of the Lord
has risen upon thee.
Leader: Let us pray. Bless, O Lord God almighty,
this home, that in it there may be health, purity, the
strength of victor, humility, goodness, & mercy, the
fulfillment of Thy law, the thanksgiving to God the
Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. And may
this blessing remain upon this home and upon all who
dwell herein. Through Christ our Lord.
All: Amen.
After the prayers of the blessing are recited, the initials
of the Magi & year are inscribed upon the doors with
the blessed chalk. (The initials C, M, B, can also be
interpreted as the Latin phrase “Christus mansionen
benedicat” which means Christ Bless this house.)
Example: 20+C+M+B+17
Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising (Isaiah 60:3) “Jesus was born in the darkness of a stable without any fanfare. Only a few recognized him. Among these ‘few’ were the wise men who were led to Jesus by God’s revelation. These emissaries from the East stand in Scripture as representatives of the “nations” who would at last come to the light of God. ‘Epiphany’ is a Greek word meaning ‘manifestation’. The wise men knew that they were somehow included in the promise of this one who was ‘born king of the Jews’ (Matthew 2:2). These wise men were Gentile, not Jewish. They were the first fulfillment of what was proclaimed in the letter to the Ephesians: With the coming of Jesus, the Jewish Messiah, God was inviting the Gentiles to be part of his people (Ephesians 3:5-6).
The Book of Isaiah continues to realize its fulfillment as the church is called to ‘arise’ and ‘shine’ (Isaiah 60:1), drawing everyone from all nations to Christ”.

VOCATION CHALICE PROGRAM
The Chalice program allows any parish member or family the opportunity to take home a sacred Chalice for one month. The Chalice is accompanied by a binder of individual prayers dealing with vocations to the priesthood, religious life, lay ministry, marriage, and the single life. Each family or individual is given the
Chalice at one of the weekend Masses. They take the Chalice home and display it in a prominent place. Throughout the month, the individual or family is asked to spend time praying for those in our own parish community who are contemplating vocations, entering into religious study, or who may be discerning a call from the Lord. Comments from the host family are written down in a “Reflection” section of the binder for others to read and contemplate. A binder to sign-up is located in the gathering space. For more details please contact Remy Young at 734-954-0403 or via email at [email protected]
