but, after worship raise your voice with joy!)
ANNOUNCEMENTS
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
Leader: In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Congregation: Amen.
L: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires
known, and from whom no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of
our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may
perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name, through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
C: Amen.
L: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the
truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful
and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
Please kneel for silent self-reflection
2
L: Most merciful God,
C: we confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free
ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and
deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved
our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus
Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so
that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the
glory of your holy name. Amen.
L: Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins
through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and
by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life.

PRAYER OF THE DAY L: Let us pray.
Almighty and most merciful God, your bountiful goodness fills
all creation. Keep us safe from all that may hurt us, that, whole
and well in body and spirit, we may with grateful hearts
accomplish all that you would have us do, through Jesus Christ,
our Savior and Lord. C: Amen.
FIRST READING: Ruth 1: 1-19
L: The first reading is from chapter 1 of Ruth.
1 In the days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land.
So a man from Bethlehem in Judah, together with his wife and two
sons, went to live for a while in the country of Moab. 2 The man’s
name was Elimelek, his wife’s name was Naomi, and the names of
his two sons were Mahlon and Kilion. They were Ephrathites from
Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to Moab and lived there.
3 Now Elimelek, Naomi’s husband, died, and she was left with her
two sons. 4 They married Moabite women, one named Orpah and
the other Ruth. After they had lived there about ten years, 5 both
Mahlon and Kilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two
sons and her husband.
6 When Naomi heard in Moab that the LORD had come to the aid of
his people by providing food for them, she and her daughters-in-
law prepared to return home from there. 7 With her two daughters-
in-law she left the place where she had been living and set out on
the road that would take them back to the land of Judah.
8 Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go back, each of
you, to your mother’s home. May the LORD show you kindness, as
you have shown kindness to your dead husbands and to me. 9 May
the LORD grant that each of you will find rest in the home of
another husband.”
Then she kissed them goodbye and they wept aloud 10 and said to
her, “We will go back with you to your people.”
11 But Naomi said, “Return home, my daughters. Why would you
come with me? Am I going to have any more sons, who could
become your husbands? 12 Return home, my daughters; I am too old
4
to have another husband. Even if I thought there was still hope for
me—even if I had a husband tonight and then gave birth to sons— 13 would you wait until they grew up? Would you remain unmarried
for them? No, my daughters. It is more bitter for me than for you,
because the LORD’s hand has turned against me!”
14 At this they wept aloud again. Then Orpah kissed her mother-in-
law goodbye, but Ruth clung to her.
15 “Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to her
people and her gods. Go back with her.”
16 But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back
from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.
Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17 Where
you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal
with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and
me.” 18 When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with
her, she stopped urging her.
19 So the two women went on until they came to Bethlehem. When
they arrived in Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of
them, and the women exclaimed, “Can this be Naomi?”
L: The Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
PSALM 111
L: Let us read responsively Paslm 111
1 Praise the LORD.
I will extol the LORD with all my heart
in the council of the upright and in the assembly.
2 Great are the works of the LORD;
they are pondered by all who delight in them.
3 Glorious and majestic are his deeds,
and his righteousness endures forever.
4 He has caused his wonders to be remembered;
the LORD is gracious and compassionate.
5 He provides food for those who fear him;
he remembers his covenant forever.
5
6 He has shown his people the power of his works,
giving them the lands of other nations.
7 The works of his hands are faithful and just;
all his precepts are trustworthy.
8 They are established for ever and ever,
enacted in faithfulness and uprightness.
9 He provided redemption for his people;
he ordained his covenant forever—
holy and awesome is his name.
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
all who follow his precepts have good understanding.
To him belongs eternal praise.
SECOND READING: 2 Timothy 2: 1-13
The second reading is from chapter 2 of Second Timothy.
1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many
witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to
teach others. 3 Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of
Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian
affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. 5 Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the
victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules. 6 The
hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the
crops. 7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you
insight into all this. 8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from
David. This is my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering even to the
point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not
chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect,
that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with
eternal glory.
11 Here is a trustworthy saying:
If we died with him,
we will also live with him;
6
12 if we endure,
we will also reign with him.
If we disown him,
he will also disown us; 13 if we are faithless,
he remains faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.
L: The Word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
GOSPEL: Luke 17: 11-19
L: The Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke, the 17th chapter.
C: Glory to you, O Lord. 11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border
between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village,
ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on
us!”
14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the
priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.
15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising
God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and
thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.
7
17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other
nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this
foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has
made you well.”
L: The Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.
SERMON
HYMN OF THE DAY Guide Me Ever, Great Redeemer
(ELW 618)
APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen

P: Let us pray. Merciful God,

signs of you gracious love. Receive them for the sake of him
who offered himself for us, Jesus Christ our lord. Amen.
THE GREAT THANKSGIVING
L: The Lord be with you.
C: And also with you.
L: Lift up your hearts.
C: We lift them to the Lord.
L: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C: It is right to give our thanks and praise.
PREFACE
It is indeed right, our duty and our joy,
that we should at all times and in all places
give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God,
through our Savior Jesus Christ;
who on this day overcame death and the grave,
and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of
everlasting life.
And so, with all the choirs of angels,
with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven,
we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
9
SANCTUS Holy, Holy, Holy
P: Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son,
who reached out to heal the sick and suffering,
who preached good news to the poor,
and who, on the cross, opened his arms to all.
In the night in which he was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrection, and ascension,
we await his coming in glory.
Pour out your Holy Spirit,
10
that by this Holy Communion we may know
the unity we share with all your people
in the body of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, now and
forever.
C: Amen
LORD’S PRAYER
P: Lord remember us in you kingdom, and teach us to pray.
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
INVITATION TO COMMUNION
L: Taste and see that the Lord is good.
C: Amen
