    St. Louis 150th Anniversary Celebration St. Louis Parish will celebrate its 150th Anniversary the weekend

    of October 26, 27 and 28th. Please plan to join us for the

    following events:

    Alumni Gathering - Friday, October 26, 6:30pm in the St. Louis Old Gym. All Alumni of St. Louis School and their

    spouse/guest are invited to come and renew friendships, tour

    the school, and reminisce over memories and photographs.

    Please bring any memorabilia you might like to share. Light

    hors d’ oeuvres and beverages will be provided.

    Anniversary Mass & Reception - Sunday, October 28th, 11:00am Mass.

    World Mission Sunday—Second Collection Today, October 21, is World Mission Sunday. We celebrate this day by

    remembering the revitalizing mission at the heart of our faith—to bring the Gospel

    to all! The collection today for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith ensures

    the work and service of the Church, as it supports priests, religious and lay leaders

    who offer the Lord’s mercy and help to the most vulnerable communities of the

    world. Please keep the missions in your prayers and thank you for your generosity.

    Fr. Stan’s Book Club The next book for the book club is “The Confessions of Saint Augustine,” by Saint

    Augustine. Books are available in the parish office for $7.00. Discussions for the

    book will be Tuesday, November 27th at 6:30pm and Thursday, November 29th

    at 9:30am.

    St. Louis Parish Festival News The St. Louis Festival Committee is in need of some volunteers to step up and take

    on some of the responsibilities for our parish festival next year. We will need a few

    people to take over the main meal dining area in the Activity Center, and a

    chairperson for the Carry-Out Dinners. These are both very important to the

    success of our festival. If you are interested in helping in one of these areas,

    please contact the parish office at 812-934-3204.

    Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat A Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat will be held November 2-4, 2018 for women and men

    who have known regret, sorrow, guilt or shame after abortion. The weekend

    combines living scripture meditations, spiritual exercises, and discussions in a

    guided process that leads to the heart of God’s love and compassion. If you would

    like to learn more about this retreat or register for this retreat you can contact our

    Project Rachel Team at our confidential line 317-452-0054 or

    [email protected]. For general information about Rachel’s Vineyard

    Retreats visit www.rachelsvineyard.org. Inquiries, registration and participation are

    strictly confidential. Due to the nature of this retreat, the location is kept

    confidential until participants register. Visit www.humanlifeanddignity/past-

    abortion.html.

    Please Help Keep Our Parish Records Updated!

    We know that cell phones are replacing landlines as the

    main phone for many families. Please remember to notify

    the parish office if there have been any changes such as

    phone number, address, marital status, etc.

    History of the Prayer to St. Michael Saint Michael the Archangel is an angel who is considered

    the leader of all the angels and of the army of God. The title

    "Archangel" means that he is above all the others in rank.

    St. Michael has four main responsibilities as we know from

    scripture and Christian tradition:

    1. To combat Satan;

    2. To escort the faithful to heaven at their hour of death;

    3. To be a champion of all Christians and the Church itself;

    4. To call men from life on Earth to their heavenly judgment.

    In Daniel, St. Michael is mentioned twice: (1) Daniel 10:13,

    as one who helped Daniel, and (2) in Daniel 12, he is

    mentioned with regard to the end times of the world, when

    he will stand for the "children of thy people;" in the Epistle of

    St. Jude, 1:9, where St. Michael is said to guard the tomb of Moses and has

    contended with Satan over the body of Moses; in Revelation 12:7, "And there was

    a great battle, where St. Michael and his angels fought with the dragon.”

    There are other scripture passages where St. Michael is implied, but not

    mentioned by name, such as the angel who defends the gate to Paradise (Genesis

    3:24); the angel through whom God published the Decalogue to his chosen people;

    who defends against Balaam (Numbers 22:22 ff.); and "who routed the army of

    Sennacherib" (2 Kings 19:35).

    The prayer to St. Michael originated with Pope Leo XIII in 1886. Legend has it that

    the Pope, following Holy Mass, received a vision in which he saw the great damage

    Satan would do to the Church and the world in the 20th century. Pope Leo XIII

    composed this prayer to be recited after Low Mass.

    Pope Paul VI, in a homily in 1972, gave a great warning for Catholics to be aware

    of the Devil and to be armed against him. The Holy Father asserted that he had the

    feeling that “from some fissure, the smoke of Satan has entered into the temple of

    God.”

    Pope St. John Paul II has said: “Although this prayer is no longer recited at the end

    of Mass, I ask everyone not to forget it and to recite it to obtain help in the battle

    against the forces of darkness and against the spirit of this world."

    St. Michel is invoked for protection, especially from lethal enemies. He is also the

    patron of soldiers, police and doctors.
