The practice of pilgrimage has a special place in the Holy Year, because it represents the journey each of us makes in this life. Life itself is a pilgrimage, and the human being is a viator, a pilgrim travelling along the road, making his way to the desired destination. Similarly, to reach the Holy Door in Rome or in any other place in the world, everyone, each according to his or her ability, will have to make a pilgrimage. This will be a sign that mercy is also a goal to reach and requires dedication and sacrifice. May pilgrimage be an impetus to conversion: by crossing the threshold of the Holy Door, we will find the strength to embrace Gods mercy and dedicate ourselves to being merciful with others as the Father has been with us. The Lord Jesus shows us the steps of the pilgrimage to attain our goal: Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back” (Lk 6:37-38). Bull of Indiction of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy

GRACE, MERCY, AND PEACE

(Continued from last week)

13. We want to live this Jubilee Year in light of the Lord’s words: Merciful like the Father. The Evangelist reminds us of the teaching of Jesus who says, “Be merciful just as your Father is merciful” (Lk 6:36). It is a programme of life as demanding as it is rich with joy and peace. Jesus’s command is directed to anyone willing to listen to his voice (cf. Lk 6:27). In order to be capable of mercy, therefore, we must first of all dispose ourselves to listen to the Word of God. This means rediscovering the value of silence in order to meditate on the Word that comes to us. In this way, it will be possible to contemplate God’s mercy and adopt it as our lifestyle.

14. May pilgrimage be an impetus to conversion: by crossing the threshold of the Holy Door, we will find the strength to embrace God’s mercy and dedicate ourselves to being merciful with others as the Father has been with us.

The Lord Jesus shows us the steps of the pilgrimage to attain our goal: “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For the measure you give will be the measure you get back” (Lk 6:37-38).

PRAYER OF POPE FRANCIS

God of Joy The joy of the Gospel is such that it cannot be taken

away from us by anyone or anything. The evils of our world - and those of the Church - must not be excuses for diminishing our commitment and our

fervour. Let us look upon them as challenges which can help us to grow.

With eyes of faith, may we see the light which your Holy Spirit always radiates in the midst of darkness,

remembering that “where sin increased, grace has abounded all the more’. (Rom 5:20).

In our own lives, help us to discern how wine can come from water and how wheat can grow in the midst of

weeds. Let us disagree with prophets of doom, always

forecasting disaster! May we always be confident that, in our times, your

divine Providence is leading us to a new order of human relations, which, by human effort, and even beyond all

expectations, are directed to the fulfilment of your designs.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

[Prayer from Pope Francis’ words ‘The Joy of the Gospel’ (Evangelii Gaudium)]

ST LIBORIUS SCHOOL

Dear Parents and Friends of St Liborius, Our prayers and thoughts are with the Ledwidge family as Helen’s mother, Nancy, passed away yesterday. Please keep Helen, Travis and Elisa in your prayers. What a pleasant day we had at the pool last Friday as our Yr 3-6 students participated in the 2016 St Liborius swimming sports. The Student Sports Captains were pumped and the children responded so well to their directions and marshalling. The positive barracking and support shown to all was fantastic to witness. Thankyou to David Waters for his organisation and to Travis Ledwidge for his coordination on the day. Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences Thank you to all who attended our parent, teacher and student conferences. This is an important element of schooling and ensures that we have great pathways of communication between students & teachers and teachers & parents. This is an important element of our Emotional Intelligence as in many situations it creates a solid foundation for positive and direct communication between school and home. Parent’s Club I’m so thrilled to see a resurgence of parents not only volunteering their time but putting their hand up to take on various roles within the club. Construction Works There will be some disruptions to our Panton Street entrance from the 15th March with the delivery and construction of the steel works for the project. Full School Review We will be conducting our full school review in conjunction with the Catholic Education Office Sandhurst and Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority week 2 next term. Frank Dullard, Principal

MARIST COLLEGE

Pool day On Fr iday we held our fir st Mar ist Pool Day. Like everything we do at Marist the terminology is important. The day was not called the swimming sports or a swimming carnival. It was a Pool day. The day lived up to its name and aims. Students had a day of participation, fun and learning. Congratulations to all our students who attended and entered into the activities and the spirit of the day. Amidst the fun and participation the day also helped our Year 7 students settle into our community. Learning Circles Learning Circles are approaching. I encourage our students to revisit the goals they set at the beginning of the year. In the next two weeks I hope each and every student is focusing on the skills they committed to improving during this opening term. 2017 In the first five weeks of Term Two we will have many opportunities for families to visit our learning community and see what Marist will be offering in the various new year levels. Facilities Updates It is not possible to visit Mar ist at present without noticing the development of the main oval. After a week of top dressing and levelling the oval will be planted with runners in the coming week. The Parks Team at the City of Greater Bendigo will then take over the care and maintenance of the oval and it will be ready for our students to use at the beginning of 2017. The Community Centre is also progressing well and remains on track for us to be using it by the beginning of 2017. At the other end of the property excavations and underground services have been completed. The Year 9 – 12 building has now had the ground floor slab poured and it will not be long before we see this significant building begin to grow before our eyes. Like the other facilities this senior learning centre will be ready for us by the beginning of next year. Darren McGregor, Principal

The Bible Answer A minister parked his car in a no-parking zone in a large city because he was short of time and couldn't find a space with a meter. So he put a note under the windshield wiper that read: "I have circled the block 100 times. If I don't

park here, I'll miss my appointment. FORGIVE US OUR TRESPASSES."

When he returned, he found a citation from a police officer along with this note. "I've circled this block for 10 years. If I don't give you a ticket, I'll

lose my job. LEAD US NOT INTO TEMPTATION."
