A Note from Fr. Craig

Dear Parishioners, Today ends the Christmas season with the feast day of the Lord’s Baptism. Baptism is one of our sacraments. Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gate to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission. We are freed from Original sin and we are filled with God’s life we call grace. The Holy Water at the entrance of the church is a reminder of our baptism. We will get Holy Water back in Church once the pandemic is over. In your new packet of envelopes is an envelope marked for Capital Improvements. This money will be used to update our Church kitchen and to do improvements at the parish house. I thank you for your generosity. We could not do these things without your help. Our Christmas collection and our Sunday giving was outstanding these last few weeks. We are almost caught up for the year. Thank You. Fr. Emmanuel will be returning this Wednesday January 13th. He will need to quarantine first. His first weekend to celebrate Mass will be January 23/24.

Have a great week. Fr Craig

In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness

By: Deacon Jim Shipman

We become part to the Christian faith when we are baptized. Bap-tism removes original sin, infuses us with the Grace of the Holy Spirit and makes us a new creation in Christ. Jesus was born free of sin, full of Grace, and is God’s Son so why did he need baptism?

The answer is Humility. Jesus be-gan His ministry by being bap-tized with water to show total hu-mility before God the Father. Pope emeritus Benedict XVI states that Jesus was making an unre-stricted YES to God’s will, as his inaugural gesture of obedient ac-ceptance of the yoke he would bear for us on the cross. Jesus ful-filled the prophecy in our First Reading by his unconditional YES as the chosen one, to bring light and justice to our broken world, open the eyes of the blind, bring out the prisoners, and free those living in darkness.

In our Gospel today, John the Bap-tist proclaimed: “One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not wor-thy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.” As be-lievers in Jesus Christ, we are called by the Holy Spirit to be obedient and live in Holiness. God invites us to seek Him with a hum-ble and contrite heart.

At Baptism our parents accepted the invitation for us to become a new creation in Christ. Are we willing to live out that invitation of our baptism? That invitation is to HUMBLY bow down before our God, accept His will, follow Him where He leads us and become Children of God. If we are willing to do this, then Our Lord will say: “You are my beloved Child, with whom I am well pleased”.

~ Praying For Vocations ~ The new calendar year invites us accept the challenge of aspiring to HOLINESS, whatever our specific vocations. We are called to be holy in all aspects of our lives. This is an ongoing process, often slowed by set-backs. When the saints were alive, they did not regard themselves as saints; rather, they knew they were sinners — and they strived to be saints. The process of becoming holy is, even for saints, filled with strug-gle. Know you are a sinner; strive to be a saint. Please continue to pray for the seminarians from our Archdiocese.
