ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH
From the Pastor’s Laptop
It happens providentially that on this Sunday chosen to promote TMIY, the second reading says: “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loved the church and handed himself over for her to sanctify her” (Ephesians 5:25). God is calling men to be spiritual leaders in their families, and to be willing to make any sacrifice for them, just like Jesus!
In today’s Gospel, many people decide not to follow Jesus because of what He says about being the “Bread from Heaven.” But St. Peter is a good male leader who says: “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” (John 6:68). Gentlemen, where else shall we go at 6:30 AM in the morning? Let us respond to the Lord’s call! See you on September 9!
Father Mark Wagner Today is the first of two Sundays
w h i c h w i l l b e dedicated to promoting our men’s formation program “That Man is You” here at St. Joseph’s. I decided that our parish should use this nationally-known program because it is very important that men “step up” and become spiritual leaders in their families. To accomplish this, it is necessary to learn the faith, and support one another as men. The men of our parish will gather every Wednesday morning from 6-7:30 AM beginning September 9 and continuing through December.
Missionaries in the third world know that when they first enter a v i l l a g e t h e y s h o u l d b e g i n ministering by reaching out to the men of the village. Once the men are evangelized, then the women and children follow. If they begin by teaching only women and children, there is a danger that the men will not follow them into the Church. I have been at St. Joseph’s for three years. It is time for me to minister to the men of our parish!
Husbands, love your wives

World Youth Day
2016 Pilgrim Profiles
Stephy Gomez What I am looking forward to most on
the pilgrimage to WYD 2016 Poland is spiritual growth and camaraderie. I can't speak for the generation before me, but being part of the youth today seems to be increasingly difficult than it was before. Being Catholic isn't easy when you have a society constantly steering us in the direction opposite to God. I was lucky enough to go to WYD Madrid in 2011, and witnessing so many teenagers, college students, and young adults celebrating what it means to be Catholic.
That reminded me that I am not alone in the battle against sin. I had millions of brothers and sisters there to encourage me to continue the fight, and they inspired me. Seeing a sea of people so on fire for the Lord inspires me to strengthen my own relationship with Him. I would greatly like to go to a second World Youth Day to experience this again, as I
am in need of a spiritual growth spurt if you will. There is always something new to learn and there is always room to grow; no one is alone on this. We need each other if we want to move forward together as we are one body, one body in Christ.
This may sound corny, but the formation meetings for World Youth Day Poland 2016 have been very educational and fun. We learn Polish phrases and historical sites where miracles have occurred in Poland that we will visit. This excites me every time for being given the opportunity to visit such places.
I would really like to build friendships among my fellow pilgrims. While traveling to new places may be fun, it can also be very stressful, and knowing who I will spend most of my time with will greatly improve my outlook on the experience. This is after all a pilgrimage, there will be times that we will be pushed to our limits physically, emotionally and spiritually.
To those who have helped make this WYD trip possible in any shape or form, how can I thank you? I am very grateful for the help we've received this far and wish I could give each and every one of
you a hug! This opportunity does not come often. Sure there's a World Youth Day every 2-3 years, but without fundraising or the generosity of you good people, I wouldn't have the chance to travel internationally on a spiritual journey.
Unfortunately, money is necessary to make this t r ip happen, and your participation in our fundraising events are greatly appreciated. Coming from a college student's point of view, I'd be grateful if someone bought me lunch let alone helped me travel to a different country. I try really hard to save money and spend it wisely and WYD is one of those things. Please don't think you're paying for someone's vacation; that is very different from a pilgrimage as I described earlier. You would be contributing to a youth's trip that's all about getting closer to God. Isn't that the goal for all of us?
Adriana Ramirez
I am looking forward to deepening my faith throughout this pilgrimage.
So far, I have had the pleasure of meeting a lot of wonderful people who are also on the path to Christ and are also faithful parishioners here at St. Joseph’s.
I would like to get to know the pilgrims we will be traveling with. I would also like to know more about Poland, and the places we're going to be visiting.
This will be far from a vacation for me, as I will be focusing more on Christ than I would be doing during a vacation.
Thank you for helping us on our pilgrimage, as we prepare for Poland.
We would really appreciate you helping us see the Pope!!
A Big thank you to all of those who attended the “Priests vs. Pilgrims Basketball Game, which helps to support our
pilgrims!
“In many places, the quality of life is related primarily to economic means, to “well-being”, to the beauty and enjoyment of the physical, forgetting other more profound dimensions of existence — interpersonal, spiritual and religious. In fact, in the light of faith and right reason, human life is always sacred and always “of quality”. There is no human life that is more sacred than another – every human life is sacred – just as there is no human life qualitatively more significant than another, only by virtue of resources, rights, great social and economic opportunities. The dominant thinking sometimes suggests a “false compassion”, that which believes that it is: helpful to women to promote abortion; an act of dignity to obtain euthanasia; a scientific breakthrough to “produce” a child and to consider it to be a right rather than a gift to welcome; or to use human lives as guinea pigs presumably to save others.”
— Pope Francis to the Association of Italian Doctors, November14, 2014

A Statement from Bishop Blaire
August 10, 2015
A Statement from Bishop Stephen Blaire regarding the Planned Parenthood videos
In an early letter of the Church attributed to the Apostle Barnabas, it is written that anyone “who is bent on reaching his (her) appointed goal must be very careful in all he (she) does....Love your creator....Love your neighbor more than your own life. Do not kill an unborn child through abortion, nor destroy it after birth…..Accept as a blessing whatever comes your way in the knowledge that nothing ever happens without God’s concurrence.”
All human life comes into being with the concurrence of God. To throw away that human
life through abortion or to traffic in fetal organs or tissues through abortion not only fails to respect the humanity and dignity of human life but is a direct affront to God.
Pope Francis in the “Joy of the Gospel” says that “among the vulnerable for whom the
Church wishes to care with particular love and concern are unborn children, the most de-fenseless and innocent among us.” “A human being,” he says “is always sacred and inviolable, in any situation and at every stage of development.”
I ask the people of our diocese to contact their state and federal representatives through
the Catholic Legislative Network at http://cacatholic.org to ask them not to fund Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood has received an average of $536 million dollars a year for the past four years, and some of that money goes specifically to pay for abortions.
I also encourage you to support the pro-life pregnancy resource centers in our Diocese. You can get a list of the centers at http://stocktondiocese.org/community-of-caring.
Knowing the pain, hurt and trauma that the Planned Parenthood news coverage can bring to those who were involved in an abortion, it is important for us all to know and lift up God’s mercy. Any and all persons will be welcomed with compassion and assistance through the Church’s post-abortion healing ministry, PROJECT RACHEL. If you or someone you know, would like confidential, nonjudgmental help, please visit www.projectrachel.com or call Kim Fuentes at the Diocese of Stockton, 209-465-5433.

Parish Stewardship — a way of life
By: Bertha Malfavon
Teresa Aguilar
It is such an honor for me to be at this parish and meet so many people who are full of faith, love, and enjoy being stewards of their gifts. At St. Joseph’s I have seen the Holy Spirit work in wonderful ways and it is easy to see God in our parishioners. A name that really rings in my mind when I think of this stewardship is Teresa Aguilar.
Teresa and her family have been at the parish for some time now. They have always helped, but it wasn’t until a couple of years ago that Teresa had more time and decided to really share some of the talents that God gave her. She currently helps those in need as a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Ministry and the Bereavement Ministry.
Teresa embraces her faith and loves to share her faith with the youngest of our community within the catechism program. It is so refreshing to see a person open to serving the needy and helping in the office and events. Teresa is a very sincere and beautiful person inside and out.
Thank you Teresa!

CORRESPONSABILIDAD (STEWARDSHIP)
Por: Bertha Malfavon
Leer, Meditar, Orar y Vivir
