Lighting Candles: Have you ever wondered why Catholics light candles? Many Catholic churches and shrines have votive candles for people to light. We light a candle and say a prayer for some special intention and when we leave the place it is as if our prayer continues to be offered to God.

We Need Priests: The Catholic population of the world increased by 57 percent between 1980 and 2012, but the number of priests declined by 17 percent, according to a study released June 1, 2015 by CARA, the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate. The traditional strongholds of world Catholicism – Europe and America – are struggling to find enough priests to lead their congregations and have turned instead to Africa and Asia. Without priests we cannot have Mass. Pray for priestly vocations.

A Prayer for Priestly Vocations: Heavenly Father, you renew the Church in every age by raising up priests outstanding in holiness, living witnesses of your unchanging Love. Fill the hearts of young men with courage to answer your call. Give parents the grace to encourage vocations in their family by prayer and good example. Give the Church more priests and keep them faithful in their love and service. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Ministers at Mass: If you would be able to serve as an usher, a lector, a server, a greeter, a gift bearer, a song leader, or a Eucharistic minister for any of our Masses please call the parish office. Bell Fund: We received our first gift of $1,000 in memory of Irene Rishkofski. The low bid was $8,810. This is a dream project to have the Westminster Chimes sound each quarter hour and hour during the day, to play the Angelus at 6 am, 12

and 6 pm and hymns at certain appointed times.

Maintenance Fund Envelope: Several years ago when the parish hall was being built the parish starting having a monthly building fund collection. After the building was paid off the fund was changed to a maintenance fund. Since this money goes into the general fund I have decided to discontinue this second collection for parish maintenance. If you have been using this envelope I ask you to simply put this amount in your regular Sunday offering. Catholic Gifts: Come by the office and see our new line of bibles, catechisms, rosaries, auto devotionals, crucifixes, holy water bottles, prayer books and more. We have some inexpensive large print and giant print bibles and also children bibles. Stop by Tue, Wed, or Fri from 8 am until 5 pm. ALTAR SOCIETY SUMMER YARD SALE !!!

in the parish hall. What is a Communion Service? A Communion Service may be celebrated when no priest is available to celebrate Mass. It is led by a designated lay person and includes the Mass readings of the day and the distribution of the Communion. While I am away T. J. Dennison will have a Liturgy of the Word and Communion Service on Tuesday and Thursday at 12:05 pm at St. Joseph and on Wednesday at 5:00 pm at St. John.

Let’s Change This Decline: In 2015 it is estimated that 1.2 million people will stop attending church. We can change this trend in Grayson and Edmonson Counties by inviting and encouraging family members, friends, neighbors and co-workers to attend church. Who can you invite this week?

Like wide open spaces, fresh air, and nature at its best? We have the perfect spot for you. The flower beds behind the church and the one at the rectory need weeding. This could be your dream job !!!
