LENTEN FAST AND ABSTI-NENCE—During the season of Lent,

the Church urges the faithful to reflect a spirit of penance in their daily lives through

performing acts of faith and abstinence.

FASTING requires a Catholic from the 18th birthday to the 59th birthday to reduce the amount of food eaten from normal. The Church defines this as one meal a day, and two smaller meals which if added together would not exceed the main meal in quantity. Those whose work or health would be impaired are excused from fast and absti-nence.

ABSTINENCE requires a Catholic 14 years or older to abstain from eating meat on Fridays in honor of the Passion of Jesus– This should be observed throughout the year but always during Lent.

ASH WEDNESDAY & GOOD FRIDAY are days of Fast and Abstinence. FRIDAYS during Lent are days of Abstinence. This year, the Solemnity of Saint Patrick, our patron, falls on a Friday, and I have decided to dispense our people from abstaining from meat.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS will be held on Friday evenings during Lent at 7:30pm. from March 3rd-April 7th. You are invited to make this a part of your Lenten journey. Join us for soup and salad in the so-cial hall at 6:30pm. Please sign up to bring

soup, salad or bread. Sign up sheets are in church/chapel lobby. PARTNERS-IN-PRAYER - during Lent we ask parishioners to take a picture of a 2nd grader or a 9th grader and pray for them as they prepare for 1st Com-munion or Confirmation. Pictures will be on the bulletin board in church/chapel lobby so keep a lookout!

Lenten Fish Fry: Fri. Mar. 3rd 4:30-6:30pm ALL YOU CAN EAT! $15.00 per person—Eat-In and Take-Out available—Reservations are strongly encouraged. e-mail: [email protected]

2017-2018 Registration for School Year is on-going. Call school for a tour or shadow for a day.

DON’T BE ANXIOUS People have, it seems, a natural penchant for misplaced emphasis on unimportant things. They can easily get caught up with what they’re having for dinner or what they will wear. Often it is a tragedy that helps people to refocus on what is really important. What I shall wear is an irrelevant question when I am facing surgery or che-motherapy. What’s for dinner is immaterial to those living through grief or unemployment. In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us not to worry. He doesn’t say, “Don’t eat. Don’t cook. Don’t buy clothes.” He says, “Don’t worry.” Jesus asks us not to relinquish our responsibilities but to let go of our anxiety. Anxiety betrays a lack of trust and Jesus re-minds us that “Your heavenly Father knows” all that you need (Matthew 6:32).

~Father George
