Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 19 2020—Year A

Less them both grow till harvest time

There’s a bit of bad in the best of us, and a lot of good in the worst of us.

How true, Like the farmer in the gospel looking at the weeds and wheat in a field,

we look at the goodness and the sinfulness in our lives.

People’s strengths have their own weaknesses: a generous person is often hot-tempered

and a placid person may seem cold or unfeeling.

Weeds and wheat, weeds and flowers, all grew in the farmer’s field, and God saw more of the colour and the growth than the weeds.

Same with you and me.

With God’s grace and co-operation the good can overcome the bad.

And when God looks at a life, he sees the life totally,

and the bad is lost and forgiven in the good.

And the word of God is patience. Let them both grow till harvest time, he said,

otherwise, if you cut everything, you will do violence to the field.

Lord, help me be patient with myself, let me know that you see the heart

and you see that behind every fault and sin, there is also the struggle to do good.

Let them both grow till harvest time.

Communion Reflections – Donal Neary SJ

REMINDER TO ALL VOLUNTEERS

A WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK IS ESENTIAL

Any parishioner who kindly volunteers in any capacity in the Church is now required to have a current Working with Children Check in place. Could you please ensure to advise the Parish Office with details in order for the data base to be accurate. If you don’t have one unfortunately you will not be able to volunteer in any capacity. If you would like assistance with applying for one please contact Elisa Kelesidis at the parish office 9401 6366. Thank you for your continued support of our parish community.

Unfortunately the St Vincent de Paul Drive By Food Drive has now been suspended due to the current restrictions. The St Vincent de Paul Team are most grateful for the many donations made by so many generous parishioners. This indeed helps the needs of the community greatly. As soon as restrictions are lifted we will advise when donations can resume.

Christian Meditation by ZOOM

It is proposed that Parish meditation gatherings resume—on Zoom. Just think, you could join our dedicated group of meditating parishioners in the enticing quiet of your own home; all you need is a computer, laptop or smartphone. We would meditate fortnightly. Zoom instructions and coaching are available if needed. You are most welcome to join us.

Consistent meditation is known to help with everything from raised blood pressure to depression; even practised occasionally, it helps calm our busy minds. If you are interested in deepening your spirituality, or want to strengthen your connection to God, you must try this. Free of charge.

To indicate your interest: leave a message with Chris Ryan on 9874 5940. Please indicate either your phone number or email address to enable Zoom contact. Further details will follow after interest has been gauged.

“Communion Because we are not receiving the Eucharist at Mass, are we really missing out on Communion? The dictionary says “Communion is an act of sharing with nature or with a person, it is an intimate interaction.” The most intimate relationship we can have is with our God who knows and loves us warts and all. “God knows everything in our hearts” St Paul to the Romans. AWESOME By praying with and for one another, we are recognising and sharing our mutual love and relationship with our God. Being part of our Parish weekly Mass and thinking of our fellow parishioners is a great way to stay in Communion with one another. The outstretched arms of Jesus on the Crucifix enfolds us all. Let us rejoice and be glad.”

“Let’s put a spring in our step—Gardening Tips Potting Herbs: It is time pot herbs in small pots and place on bright window sill and can be transplanted in Spring. Planting Carrots: Prepare garden bed now using compost. Plant seeds in September. Asparagus can be planted now.

Enjoy the sunshine when we can, it is good for the body and soul.”
