BAPTISM / BAUTISMO Baptisms in English take place on the Sunday of the last Sunday of
the month at 2:30 p.m. during the following months: January,
March, May, July, September and November. Parents should call the Parish Office to arrange the Baptism. Parents are required to
attend a Pre-Baptism Class.

MÁS QUE DISCÍPULOS
Cada uno de los cuatro roles en las Escrituras de
hoy —discípulo, profeta, apóstol, testigo— forma una
faceta de la vida en Cristo que vivimos día a día. Isaías
nos dice que el profeta es ungido, tal como fuimos un-
gidos en el Bautismo con agua y con el Espíritu, para
traer la Buena Nueva y promover el Reino de Dios, un
reino de salvación, justicia y paz. El apóstol, como
Pablo, es un “enviado”. Cada uno de nosotros, a su
manera, es enviado por Cristo a ser una voz de alegría,
a animar las voces proféticas en el mundo y asegurar
que prospere la obra del Espíritu. Juan Bautista nos
muestra la labor del testigo, enderezando el camino
del Señor, anunciando la venida de la Luz del Mundo.
Hoy escuchamos también a María, discípulo modelo.
Su canto, el “Magnificat”, nos muestra el mundo en que
debemos creer y por el cual laborar: uno en donde Dios
sea alabado, donde el favor de Dios se derrama sobre
los humildes, donde los hambrientos quedan repletos y
los ricos se despiden vacíos, un mundo que continúa
conociendo y celebrando la misericordia de Dios que

MORE THAN DISCIPLES
Each of today’s four scriptural roles—disciple,
prophet, apostle, herald—forms a facet of our life in
Christ as we live it day by day. Isaiah tells us that a
prophet is anointed, as we were anointed at our bap-
tism in water and the Spirit, to bring glad tidings and
to promote God’s reign of healing, justice, and peace.
An apostle, like Paul, is one who is “sent.” Each of us, in
his or her own way, is sent by Christ to be a voice of
rejoicing, to encourage prophetic voices in the world,
and to make sure that the work of the Spirit thrives.
John the Baptist shows us the job of the herald, mak-
ing the Lord’s way straight, announcing the coming of
the Light of the world.
Today we also hear from Mary, model disciple. Her
song, the Magnificat, shows us the world we must be-
lieve in and work for: one in which God is praised,
where God’s favor is bestowed on the humble, where
the hungry are filled and the rich are sent away emp-
ty, a world that continues to know and rejoice in the

主 日 福 音 分 享
將臨期內，整個教會準備慶祝耶穌聖誕節。雖然耶
穌誕生已經超過二十個世紀，但是為許多不認識及不相信
祂的人，實在可說祂尚未來臨，尚未誕生在他們的生命
中。所以，基督信友在將臨期內，在準備自己恭度聖誕大
瞻禮時，不能不想到怎樣把天主聖子降生成人的喜訊，傳
播給人。今天福音中出現的第一個名詞：「作證」，可以
幫助大家反省反省。
為了使自己時代的猶太人，接受耶穌基督的來臨，聖
若翰由天主派遣來是為作證。基督是光，若翰為光作證。
那究竟什麼叫做「作證」？若翰自己怎樣為耶穌基督作證
了呢？作證便是作為證人，這是一個法庭應用的名詞。法
庭上為判決一個案件誰是誰非，通常需要證人。證人出來
根據自己的資料或者證據，保證某人是、某人非。法庭上
證人愈多、證據愈多，是非越容易分辨。現在若望福音應
用這個名詞，說若翰是天主派遣來的證人，他應用種種證
據，向人證明耶穌是默西亞、是基督、是人類的光明。那
麼事實上若翰是怎樣作證呢？四部福音中關於若翰的作證
方式，實在相當多。既然今天誦讀的是若望福音，我們便
根據同一部福音，來討論若翰的作證吧！
簡單地說，若翰是用自己的生活、語言、和行為，為
耶穌作證。若翰自己承認是在曠野裏呼喊者的聲音，這個
聲音引來了加里肋亞的老百姓，以及耶路撒冷的宗教領袖
的詢問。若不是若翰的生活在猶太人心目中是一個屬於天
主的人，絕不可能受到這許多人的注意。也因為他在曠野
中的生活如此的正直，人家才肯定他的作證是真實的。若
翰不但以自己的生活，而且以自己的言語與行動，作證耶
穌是除免世罪的天主羔羊。他之所以能夠這樣證明，因為
他說自己看見聖神彷彿鴿子從天降下，停在耶穌身上。人
家相信他的話，因為他的生活保證不會說謊。若翰除了向
人宣告，還以行動來促使人相信耶穌。他當著自己的兩個
門徒面前，再次聲明耶穌是天主的羔羊，導致他們立刻跟
隨了耶穌。
其他三部福音還有不少有關若翰的資料，不過若望福
音為我們今天的反省已經足夠了。若翰是以生活、以言以
行證明耶穌是光，而三種作證的方式中，他的生活最為有
力。人家相信他的話、隨從他的推動，因為他是天主的
人——曠野中的聖者。因此在將臨期內，當我們要向尚未
認識和相信基督的人作證時，我們在若翰身上得到極大的
靈感。今天的教友要證明耶穌是人類的救主，最根本的是
生活的見證；這是教宗保祿六世在一九七五年傳教文告中
