PASTOR’S CORNER Fourth Sunday of Easter - May 12, 2019 “I have made you a light to the Gentiles, that you may be an instrument of salvation to the ends of the earth.” — Acts 13:47b

A large set of keys was found in the church this past weekend. We have them in the rectory if they belong to you!

PRIESTS’ RETREAT 2019: Dear Parishioners, after the busy Easter time, all of us priests in the Diocese of Sacramento gathered at Christ the King Retreat center this past week. I always look forward to this wonderful time to renew ourselves spiritually, to rest & to pray. It doesn’t matter how much one may know, we all need a time of retreat; that is, to go away from the regular busy things we do & concentrate on God only. In the matter of God, who is infinite, there is always something new to learn. We are very blessed to have a retreat place where we can go. By the way, a retreat is not only for priests or religious. Every Christian should consider taking a retreat. We have also a place called Vina, a monastery in Chico where one can go away to recharge your spiritual batteries. Thanks be to God for some of you who are doing it. Retreat is a time to rest; after the busy time of Lent with confessions at all the local Parishes, & most of all, the Triduum Pascal & the busy time of Easter. It is good to get away from the ringing phone, internet, large volume of mails we receive & daily schedule for a while. Retreat is a time to be together: United with our Bishop, we stayed together for one week that is from Monday May 6th to Friday May 10th, 2019. We prayed together the morning & evening prayers; we shared the Eucharist together every day. What a wonderful time! Adding to this, I love walking in the beautiful garden of Christ the King, praying the Rosary or the Stations of the Cross. During this time, we also shared the meals together, breakfast, lunch & dinner/supper. It helps us particularly to know each other as we talk sitting at the table sharing our joys & sorrows, laughter & jokes, our excitement & fears… we always learn from each other in many & varied ways. As May is the month of Mary, I urge you, dear Parishioners, to pray the Rosary. Mary is a very good Mother; Jesus gave her to us while on the cross, in the hardest moment of His life. Her love for us will never fail, but we do fail to love her as we should. Please be the one to console her wounded heart in our world today overrun by sinful behavior. As we are approaching the 102nd anniversary of the Fatima apparitions, Christ the King is a pilgrimage place for Our Lady of Fatima. There is a beautiful statute of Our Lady of Fatima. This beautiful statute was brought in from Fatima so that one can go to it and pray. Our parish is very close to Christ the King and this is a blessing for us. Please consider going there & present to the Blessed Virgin Mary your love & worries. Our speaker was Fr. CHI V. NGO, S.J. who is a retreat & spiritual director at the Jesuit Retreat Center of Los Altos. He has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Cal Poly Pomona & a Master of Divinity degree from the Jesuit School of Theology. The retreat was called “Encountering JESUS in Troubled Times”, as the disciples did while on the sea & its storms. Please, dear Parishioners, continue to pray for all of us, your priests, as we pray for you, too. We all need each other to keep the Church, the Body of Jesus alive & strong in the midst of so much evil & troubled times that surrounds us. God bless, Father Bernardin MUGABO

nervousness and rest with Him without distractions. (starts at 7 p.m.)

Reflection on today’s Gospel (John 10: 27-30): How much do you know about sheep? They are essentially very vulnerable creatures. In Jesus’ time – shepherds needed to be with the flock all the time to protect them from danger. The sheep knew the shepherd’s voice & scent… In another Gospel passage Jesus calls himself “The Good Shepherd.” Do we listen to Jesus’ instructions in our daily lives? FOR BEST RESULTS – DO THINGS JESUS’ WAY. Pope Francis’ May intention: “That the Church in Africa, through the commitment of its members, may be the seed of unity among her peoples and a sign of hope for the continent.” Please contact the Religious-Education office above for more information and registration materials regarding the following programs: RE/CCD/CFF (for children – grades K – Jr. High); Returning-Catholics; Confirmation for Adults; General-Assistance. Please support the businesses on the back of our bulletin. They make our bulletin possible!

Our Parish needs volunteers to help support Pastoral works and acts of Mercy for our homebound and our sisters and brothers in care facilities. Will you spare a few hours a week to continue Jesus’ ministries through Mary our Mother? For information, please call Lili at 916-481-4151.

The St. Vincent de Paul Society wishes all the mothers out there a very Happy Mother’s Day. We hope you have a wonderful day with your family, pets and friends. Have you received your packet of envelopes for May/June? You will find in among all the envelopes for weekly and miscellaneous donations, a contribution envelope for St. Vincent de Paul. Your generous donations allow SVDP to continue the food distribution at the food locker and the contributions also help people who are in need of help with rent or utilities. Speaking of donations we could use some help with Top Ramen and cereal. Food donations can be left at the church’s “GIVING WING”, before or after any weekend mass. There is a sign that directs you to the north end of the narthex or an usher will be happy to help you. Your generosity is always appreciated and never taken for granted. God bless you!
