TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — The vision concerning the woman clothed

with the sun (Revelation 11:19a; 12:1-6a, 10ab).

THE DESTINY OF ALL MORTAL FLESH

The celebration of today’s feast on a Sunday is unusual on our

Roman Catholic calendar. Our observance of the Lord’s Day is

held in such high esteem that few other feasts replace it.

Occasionally there is a feast—usually of one of the saints—in

which the saving power of God in Christ is so uniquely focused

that the Roman rite deems it worthy of celebration on the Lord’s

Day. Today is such a feast. Yet some are surprised at the brevity of

the dogma in its entirety: “We pronounce, declare and define it to

be a divinely revealed dogma: that the Immaculate Mother of God,

the ever Virgin Mary having completed the course of her earthly

life, was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory.” The Roman

Catholic Church never defined any specifics or particulars about

the event itself. It is not in the scriptures. There are no verifiable

eyewitness accounts. At its core, the dogma reveals in Mary the

destiny of all mortal flesh, and reinforces our creedal belief in

resurrection of the body. This feast strengthens our faith, defined

last week in Hebrews as the realization of things hoped for. We

find, in Mary, that realization of what we all hope for, what Paul

today affirms: “In Christ shall all be brought to life” (1 Corinthians

prowadziło Ją ku niebu. Owocem życia Maryi jest

Jezus, którego przyjęła jako najwspanialszy dar Ojca

dla Niej i dla całego świata. Elżbieta błogosławi

Maryję właśnie za to, że uwierzyła Bogu i przyjęła

Jego dar. Przyjęcie Jezusa jest dla Maryi źródłem

radości, wdzięczności i uwielbienia. A czy ja potrafię

przyjmować od Boga Jego dary? Czy owocują one

radością innych? Czy wierzę w spełnienie Bożych

obietnic?

Jezu, pragnę, aby moje życie było dobre, piękne i

prawdziwe, aby zaowocowało niebem.

FEAST OF FAITH -The Shape of the Eucharistic Prayer Our Eucharistic Prayers originated in the traditional Jewish

meal prayers known as berakah, which were prayers of

thanksgiving used at meals. Over the centuries, the Christian

thanksgiving, or Eucharist, gradually took shape. While in the East

the Eucharistic Prayers (called anaphora) took many forms, in the

Roman Church there was for many centuries just one Eucharistic

Prayer, called the Roman Canon (now known as Eucharistic

Prayer I). Almost all Eucharistic Prayers include the same basic

elements. They begin with thanksgiving and acclamation. Then

there is an epiclesis, as the priest calls down the Holy Spirit upon

the gifts. Then follows the institution narrative and consecration,

as the words that Jesus spoke at the Last Supper are repeated.

After the consecration, we remember in an explicit way all that

Christ has done for us—this is the anamnesis, or remembering.

The prayer concludes with the offering, the intercessions—prayers

for the Church, our leaders, ourselves—and a final doxology of

praise.

The reforms of the Second Vatican Council enriched our

liturgy with additional Eucharistic Prayers, including both ancient

texts (Eucharistic Prayer II is based on the most ancient of all

THE ASSUMPTION OF THE HOLY

MOTHER OF GOD - The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Solemnity Although

the bodily assumption of Mary is not

explicitly recorded in Scripture, Catholic

tradition identifies her with the “woman

clothed with the sun” who is described in the

12th chapter of the Book of Revelation. The passage calls

that woman’s appearance “a great sign” which “appeared in

heaven,” indicating that she is the mother of the Jewish

Messiah and has “the moon under her feet, and on her head a

crown of twelve stars.” Accordingly, Catholic iconography

of the Western tradition often depicts the Virgin Mary’s

assumption into heaven in this manner. “It was fitting,” St.

John of Damascus wrote in a sermon on the assumption,

“that she, who had kept her virginity intact in childbirth,

should keep her own body free from all corruption even after

death,” and “that she, who had carried the creator as a child

at her breast, should dwell in the divine tabernacles.” According to our Polish traditions, today we will blessed

the flowers, fruit and herbs.

EXPOSITION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT

- On Thursday, August 19, 2021 we would like to invite

you to our Church for the exposition and adoration of the

Blessed Sacrament. Please join us in prayers for vocations

to the priesthood and religious life.

The Blessed Sacrament will be exposed after the 8:00AM

Mass and adoration will be until 12:00 noon.

PARISH PICNIC - September 12, 2021 – Raffle tickets

will be mail to all parishioners. If you need additional

tickets, they will be available in the Parish Office. We ask

all parishioners to support this raffle.

Start stocking up on napkins, 10 oz coffee cups, paper

towels, coffee-regular and decaf, hand wipes, small sugar

packets, 16 oz bottles of water, and 12 oz cans of soda.

These may be brought to the Parish Office. Consider helping

out in the Parish Center kitchen or at one of our games,

WNIEBOWZIĘCIE NMP - Według tradycji Zaśnięcie

NMP mogło się dokonać ok. 45 r. na Górze Syjon, gdzie od

IV w. istnieje bazylika utożsamiana z Wieczernikiem i

miejscem zaśnięcia. Według innych źródeł św. Jan Apostoł

miał zabrać Maryję ze sobą do Efezu i tam miała Ona

zakończyć swe ziemskie życie. Świętowana już od V wieku

tajemnica wzięcia Maryi do nieba z ciałem i duszą została 1

listopada 1950 r. potwierdzona przez Piusa XII jako dogmat

wiary. W Polsce i wielu krajach europejskich dzień ten jest

często nazywany świętem Matki Bożej Zielnej. W

kościołach święci się wówczas zioła, kwiaty i snopy

dożynkowe. W sanktuariach maryjnych gromadzą się

wielkie rzesze pielgrzymów. Na Jasną Górę przybywa ich

corocznie kilkaset tysięcy. Dzień 15 sierpnia jest także

rocznicą "Cudu nad Wisłą", czyli zwycięstwa wojska

polskiego nad sowieckimi hordami w 1920 r. i ocalenia

Europy od zalewu bolszewizmu. Czciciele Maryi w Polsce

przypisują je szczególnemu wstawiennictwu Matki Bożej.

W tym dniu w latach 1923-47 i ponownie od 1992 Wojsko

Polskie obchodzi swoje święto. Zgodnie z naszą polską tradycją dziś po każdej Mszy św.

odbędzie się poświęcenia kwiatów, ziół i płodów ziemi.
