One aspect about our Catholic faith that non-Catholic Christians don't always understand is our devotion to the saints. Some of them think that we worship the saints as if they were gods. Of course, that is not true: we believe in one God, as we pray each Sunday in the Creed, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. But we do ask the saints to pray for us - something most non-Catholic Christians don't do. The saints are with Jesus in heaven, sharing in his glory and his love for us and for the whole Church. And Jesus himself spoke with Moses and Elijah, two Old Testament saints, during his transfiguration. And so, we do the same. Just as we ask our friends here on earth to pray for us, especially those friends who we know are close to Christ, so we ask the saints, who are much closer to Christ, for their prayers. But our devotion to the saints also includes another dimension. The saints show us in concrete terms what it means to follow Jesus and live an abundant life. They are the all-star Christians, the models of how to apply our faith to life's often confusing and challenging circumstances. They are the men and women who have allowed God's grace to produce a great harvest in the vineyard of their soul, to use an image from today's First Reading. By imitating them, we can better fulfill our Christian mission. St Paul acknowledges this in today's Second Reading, when he urges the Philippians to "Keep on doing what you have learned and received and heard and seen in me. Then the God of peace will be with you." Ask your favorite saint to intercede for you today and everyday when you pray to help you on your journey of faith!

Prayer for Expectant Mothers

Dear Father, we ask you to protect the little babies who are being knit together in their mothers’ wombs. Comfort their mothers & fathers

during the time they are growing & develop-ing. Lord Jesus, give these smallest of per-sons the strength to come into this world, to

fully participate in your creation. Send your Holy Spirit to infuse their souls with love for you. After long, healthy, &

loving lives, bring them safely home to your heavenly kingdom.

Amen.

Words from a new St. Mary’s Family:

“I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed touring the school yesterday. It was everything I had imagined it would be and more. Every person we met was exception-al! We just submitted the applications for both our chil-

dren to start school!”

St. Mary’s School is continuing to enroll new students! If you would like your child to experience the kind of school that has a caring and loving faculty & staff, that encourages a sense of wonder and imagination, and where Catholic values are taught

each day, then please contact the school office, at 731-668-2525. We offer continuous enrollment throughout the school

year, so call to schedule a tour and learn more about a Catholic education at St. Mary’s School!
