Wow! Another beautiful season ahead of us. Well, winter was- nt that icyand cold, but spring could be better. Let us be grateful in Australia that we have this four season, although some parts of the seasons like summer and winter seem un-likablebut theres something great in it. Aside from being grateful let us be humble before God Almighty for giving us everything, including very hot and very cold days and nights. The WORD of GOD: We reflect on the virtue of HUMILITY in this Sundays readings. It's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way' is the antithesis of this Sun- day's readings. While the modern world seems to be about achieving that perfect ca- reer or life by 'building your own brand' or 'being a social media influencer', Jesus sees it differently. For him, it is better to seat yourself at the lower table and be brought up, than to seat yourself at the top table and risk being demoted. This advice illustrates the revolutionary ethics of the reign of God. Todays readings are a mixture of exhorta- tions to be gentle and humble in our own lives, and to give practical hospitality to the poor. The 1st Reading gives advice on humility in our behaviour and warns against pride. A wise person is attentive to God and gentle in all aspects of our dealings with others. The Psalm is a song of praise to the God who, in turn, is attentive to the or- phan and widow, the poor and the lonely. The psalmist rejoices in the generous God who gives us new life. The 2nd Reading, from Hebrews, is full of awe at the revelation of Gods power. We have been given Jesus as our mediator, and our home is the heavenly Jerusalem. Jesuss teaching in the Gospel is in the setting of a meal. His parable touches into our feelings of pride or shame and instructs us to be humble. Invitations to his banquet show a definite preference for the poor and lowly. CHALLENGE 1: This week may we follow Jesus, who is gentle and humble of heart’, in all that we say and do. Let us practice HUMILITY without grumbling, even when you were slighted or forgotten or unappreciated. AMEN! CHALLENGE 2: We are getting there towards our PARISH PROJECT 2019 - Raise funds for our church pews. So far we have raised about $8,500 . God bless you more!
