Heartbeats from your Parish Priest Fr Eduardo
We finished October dedicated to prayer to Mary through the rosary. In November, we celebrate and remember our dead through the ages, but of course we start this month with the Solemnity of All Saints, our models in our Chris-tian faith and life. The litany of the saints is one of the rich-est prayers of the Church, albeit this is only prayed as a community once in a while (i.e. ordinations, Holy Saturday). It captures the lives of the saints. On All Souls Day (2nd Nov) more appropriately called the "Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed, " we, in our Catholic tradition, spend this day as a day of prayer and remembrance for the souls of all the departed and celebrated the day after the festival of All Saints, meaning, we are hoping and praying that our dear departed ones are now with all the saints in heaven, and not otherwise. But in time we pray for our reunion with those who have left this world. It is a wholesome prac-tice to visit the grave (or gravesite) of our dear departed and offer prayers ( with flowers, may be) and light a candle for them, or offer special Masses for them in the church. Whatever and however you do in November DO IT FOR THE SOULS who might need, or in dire need of your intercession. May they REST IN PEACE. The WORD OF GOD in a nutshell: Our readings this week are both a harsh criti-cism of how some aspects of established religion can lead us to pride, and also a gentle teaching on simplicity and humility. In the 1st Reading, Malachi has hard words for the priests who have strayed and led others to stumble. Jesus, too, in the Gospel criticizes the leaders who lay heavy burdens on the people - those who only think of their own importance, rather than of teaching God's word and care for oth-ers. However, the words of St Paul to the Thessalonians in the Second Reading are in great contrast. He reveals a maternal affection for his people, and is willing to give up everything for them so as to spread the Good News. He is full of thanksgiv-ing for God's work in them. The Psalm is a beautiful prayer of humble trust in the Lord, with the image of a child resting in his mother's arms. We are encouraged to hope in God whatever comes.

St Joachim Youth - Fundraising Bake Sale on Sunday 12 Nov 2017 The St Vincent de Paul runs the ―Assist A Student‖ program (it is an education pro-gram aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty in one of our partner countries). This program gives the opportunity to provide funding to educate an overseas student for 1 year. In their endeavour to support the ―Assist A Student‖ program, and with Je-sus’ teaching to Love your neighbour in their minds and hearts, St Joachim’s Youth intends to hold a Bake Sale after the 10am Mass on Sunday 12th November and looks forward to your support in their plan to assist at least 2 students if not more.
Fr Eduardo will be away on his Annual Re-treat from 6th Nov to 15th Nov. Please pray for him and for his safe return to the parish.
This appeal will be held this weekend 4/5 Nov and will be the last CWF appeal for 2017. All donations of $2 or

Thank You Message from Richard Allcock (Bible Society) Please accept my sincere thanks for your personal support and your parish Community at St Joachim’s Church Lidcombe, for the very generous contribution made towards the “Remote Indigenous Ministry Support” Cam-paign last weekend, 28th & 29th October. Through their love for the Indigenous communities, the amount of $1610.00 was raised at your Parish. The unity of effort in contributing this significant amount is very much appreciat-ed. This money has been processed and an official receipt will be issued direct to all those who provided the neces-sary details. The Indigenous communities who will receive these Scripture Resources will certainly be very grateful for this loving contribution from your Parish.
