ST. JAMES THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC CHURCH MISSION STATEMENT
Rooted in the Catholic Faith, in order to build up the reign of God, the mission of St. James the Apostle Catholic Church is to live out the message of Jesus Christ by worshipping God by serving the world.
Reminder: If you would like to use your debit/credit card for your weekly offering, please stop by the church office. You can also set up automatic deposits from your bank to the church.
Please consider including your St. James family when planning your will.
AN ONGOING MISSION
In his hometown synagogue, Jesus’ neighbors are amazed by his words. Nevertheless, they remind each other, “Is this not Joseph’s son?” Surely the people know who he is. The carpen-ter’s son. The young man who had learned in this very synagogue. The boy down the street. Conflict arises as Jesus begins to define himself in a new way. When he compares himself to the an-cient prophets Elijah and Elisha the tensions grow. The tensions multiply when Jesus begins to tell of a new mission for God’s people: the good news of the scriptures is intended for all. In his famous passage from the First Letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul reminds us of the eternal nature of love. Love does not come to an end. In today’s readings, we are reminded that, like love, Jesus’ mis-sion cannot be contained. Jesus slips through the crowd of persecutors and moves on to new challeng-es. We are called to this same perseverance in the name of love. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
Why Register In the Church Many people attend Mass here at our church, but are not regis-tered parishioners. It is important to be registered and use your offering envelopes so that if you ever request a letter, whether it’s for being a godparent, sponsor, marriage, confirmation, tax state-ment or any other purpose, we can check our records and see that you attend Mass here. This would also benefit you if you would like to have your child enrolled in next year’s Religious Education Pro-gram. If you are not registered in the church, we cannot issue or sign any type of letter stating that you are a member of the parish, even if you attend Mass here. If you would like to register and receive offering envelopes, you must complete our registration form. You may also use the parishioner’s updated form (green) located on the church lobby shelf for any changes to your address, email or phone number. If you have any questions, please contact the office.
St. James Parishioners—We want to keep all parishioners informed of parish activities and other important information regarding our community. Email is a great way to communi-cate with you. We will try to minimize the number of emails sent out. If you are currently not receiving any of the St. James emails, please check with the parish office to see if we have your correct email on file. Thank you!

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. James the Apostle, CSA SUCCESS! Our 2018 Catholic Stewardship Appeal (CSA) for the Dio-cese of Las Vegas has come to an end, and a successful one at that! Here’s the final report as of January 22, 2019. Any contributions received after that date will be applied toward our 2019 CSA. Our 2018 CSA Goal: $37,342.00 Parishioner Pledges: $40,723.89 Actual cash received: $39,198.89 Expected Rebate: $1,856.89 The good news is that we exceeded our goal and can expect a rebate! I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to the 94 households (out of a total of 300!) from our parish who participated in sup-porting the 2018 CSA. And thanks to those who helped con-tribute “at the door” to help us make this year’s CSA a suc-cess. Hopefully next year’s CSA will find more households partic-ipating in support of the Diocese of Las Vegas. The proceeds all go to the support of our Diocese and her ministries as out-lined in the brochures each year. The more we contribute beyond our parish goal comes right back to the parish! It’s a win-win situation! This coming year is Bishop Thomas’ first CSA as our new bishop. We already know how much Bishop Thomas loves our parish, and hope that many more will hop on board the 2019 CSA train so that we can get an even big-ger rebate! Keep your eyes and ears opened as we get ready to kick-off the 2019 CSA! Peace always,
Fr. James Michael Jankowski Pastor
