PEOPLE OF HOPE

Throughout this Easter season the readings have drawn us into the experience of the early church. We have tasted the excitement and zeal of the first Chris ans. Now, with them, we listen to the words of Saint Peter, who reminds us that when people no ce that we are people of hope, we should be ready to explain why. This challenges us. Do others even no ce that we are people of hope? In a world o en marked by cynicism and hopelessness, do we stand out as people who offer hope and reassurance to others? In today’s Gospel Jesus promises that when he leaves the earth he will not leave us orphaned. Today he promises to send his Advo-cate, the Spirit of truth who will be with us always. Let us acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit and ask the Spirit to make us people of hope.

“For it is be er to suffer for doing good, if that be God’s will, than for doing evil.”

1 PETER 3:17

The old line says “if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” Many of us are hardworking in our planning, making sure things are progressing smoothly, then dis-aster strikes, we don’t get the result that we were planning. Unforeseen problem aris-es and consequently, we may respond nega vely. Why me? I did everything right! Here’s the thing – God has a different and be er plan in store for you, trust Him.
