“You, too, must be ready because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you are not expecting him.” Luke 12:40
Our Gospel today gives us a very important message about being prepared because we do not know the time, place, or date of our own personal end. You may rather want to ponder the idea of the end of the world instead of our own end but the truth is we more then likely won’t be around for that event. We can be as-sured that we will be around for the end of our own world. There will be a time for each of us to pass on from this life. And for that we should be prepared spiritually. To think of our own end might not be such a happy thought on this August weekend. When summer plans are winding down and our atten-tion might be turning to the start of a new school year, we need to ask ourselves if we are ready for the coming of the Son of Man. Or are we fooling ourselves with the idea that day will never come. Most of us live our lives in anticipation of future events, making plans, and carrying on our way. We are confident that while living in this modern world, the science of medicine and the pace of technology has and will continue to improved the quality of our lives. It seems that there is almost nothing that we cannot solve. And yet, tragedy still strikes. Death and loss still come. There is the pain of losing someone we love. Thinking of all that we wished we had said to them. Wishing there was more time to spend together. So perhaps this is a good time to hear this. The paschal mystery tells us that after death there is New Life. It is not the same, but we will be transformed. That is why we are told to prepare ourselves for the day we will stand in judgement before the Lord. We don’t know when or how, but we do know it will come. BE READY! God bless, Deacon John

DO YOU KNOW YOUR TRIBUNAL?
The Tribunal is available to help people who have experienced divorce and who may wish to remarry in the Catholic Church. When a divorce occurs, the Catholic Church always seeks to balance two reali-ties. On one hand the durable bond of mar-riage. This is God’s law. On the other hand, the Church is concerned about the spiritual welfare of the people involved. Even though a Catholic wedding was celebrated,
perhaps there was some deficiency in the consent of the parties involved regarding intentions, understanding or ability? The annulment procedure addresses these cir-cumstances. If you are divorced and want to marry in the Church or remarried outside the Catholic Church, please tele-phone the Tribunal Office at 222 North l7th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103 (215) 587-3750
