CAFOD (St Helen’s) pray-fast-give
Most nations move over time from having the bulk of the population working on the land to working in paid, more skilled jobs. When the EU was established in 1956 almost 60% of the French population were engaged in agriculture, for example. Bangladesh is on a slow journey of change in this respect. CAFOD supports a mobile training school to teach valuable vocational skills which service rural communities and increase the employability of those trained. One such school has recently trained 16 mechanics and 24 dress makers. Many thanks for last week’s donations of £259.

SVP (St Joseph’s) Many thanks for the generous collection of £200.70 last weekend, also for the recent response for food donations at the Harvest Thanksgiving which were taken to the Waterloo Foodbank. In addition, part of the monthly collections enables us to buy specific items requested by the Foodbank. This month canned tuna/rice pudding were the main items needed and your cash was used accordingly. The staff there are always very appreciative of the help St Joseph's parishioners give to the families involved.

Synod 2020. Following the listening phase, it is now time to turn opinions into action. The first of four themes, 'All Called and Gifted by God' invites your suggestions as to what the Church in Liverpool should do to help people of all ages use their gifts in the life and work of the Church. There are different ways you can contribute: at the Prayer Station, online, Proposals box in Church or at a meeting, (Joseph's on Tuesday 29th October, St. Helen's: Sun 3rd Nov, 4:30 or Monday 4th, 7:00pm) Full details of the theme and ways to contribute in the leaflet provided. Thinking outside the pew Scripture group. Why did the sinner get through to God when the (good) religious Pharisee didn't? The dangers of religious pride and prejudice in next Sunday's Gospel will be the subject of our discussion. All welcome, Monday, 7:30, Parish centre. (7:00 for refreshments and other Church matters)
