Views from Fr. Ivan Asencio, Parochial Vicar

At the Last Supper, Jesus took bread and gave it to His disciples saying: “This is my body.” Then, He took the cup and gave it to His disciples saying: “This is my blood” and commanded them: “Do this in memory of Me.” Since then, at every Mass, priests consecrate the bread and the wine following the command of the Lord. Thus, we believe that after consecration, the bread and wine are indeed the true Body and true Blood of Christ. Now, if all the bread and wine were consecrated on the same altar, using the same words, by the same Priest, why do we come to think that receiving communion from the hands of the Priest is more worthy than receiving communion from the hand of an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EM)? Is Jesus more present in the Host the Priest is distributing? Does the Host in the EM’s ciborium become unconsecrated because they are not the Priest? Jesus is present in all the Consecrated Host and the minister (ordinary or extraordinary) distributing communion has no effect in the holiness or worthiness of the Sacrament. It saddens me when people just ignore or avoid having eye contact with the EM in order to go to receive Communion directly from the priest. It saddens me when the line is too long for the priest and the EM is there just watching people pass by without having anyone going to him/her to receive communion. The Catholic Church approves the EMs, so, if she approves, it means that there is nothing wrong with receiving communion from their hands. By the way, so far no one has hesitated from receiving the

Precious Blood from the EMs holding the cups, is Jesus more

present in the Host than in the consecrated wine? From my point

of view, if we understand the meaning of the real presence of

Christ, we will understand why communion is not more or less

worthy depending on the minister who distributes it. Let’s take

our time to get to know more about our faith and our Church!

PARISH OFFICE CHANGES IN STAFF POSITIONS

Our former Associate Development Director, Nathan Byers, has resigned to pursue a career in computer technology. Our former Executive Administrator, Kyle Cupp, has resigned to become a fulltime author; by the way, about a year ago he wrote a religious book that was published. We will miss both of them since they contributed so much to our staff and our parish. We have hired Maricel Medero to be our Marriage Administra-tor. When a couple wishes to marry, Maricel will interview them and supervise the necessary paperwork and the sacramental pre- paration process. We have transferred our Receptionist, Alma Geller, to become our Parish Administrator. Alma will schedule the priests’ calen-dars and process requests for room reservations for the Parish Center, the Church and the Chapel. She will coordinate paper-work for baptisms. Since she will prepare the bulletin each Mon-day, please send announcements to her. Now we need to fill the position of Parish Receptionist. The re-ceptionist is the ambassador of the parish’s first impression on the guests. The foremost responsibility is to compassionately greet all incoming members and visitors, both on the phone and in person, providing them information or directing them to the appropriate person, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality. It is regu-larly a high-paced environment, requiring this person to delicately yet efficiently manage multiple callers and visitors. The reception-ist will also maintain the upkeep and stocking of general office areas, inventory and order office supplies, distribute mail, update phone message for holidays, and assist with other related clerical duties. Required skills include personable demeanor and fluency in English and Spanish. Cover letter and resume should be sent to [email protected].

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE – "Stuff the Bus" Aug 2nd and 3rd: The Women of St. Francis will be hosting the 16th Annual School Supply Drive benefiting Frisco Family Ser-vices Center. Many of the families they serve are unable to provide necessary supplies, backpacks and hygiene items needed for school. Please help us "Stuff the Bus" with your donations! Items can be dropped off at the table in the Parish Center Atrium after all masses the weekend of August 2nd and 3rd or left in the white bin. A list of needed items can be found on our website at www.wosf.org This is a great project in which you can truly make a difference! For questions or mone-tary donations, please contact Kim Guz at [email protected] or (469)633-0232.
