Charmaine This week we bid a fond farewell to our devoted Charmaine Nygaard who leaves us today for retirement with her family in the South.
We will offer hospitality to Charmaine downstairs after the 8am, 10am & 12 noon Masses. Please take a few moments to come downstairs and wish “Char” the very best and tell her how much you appreciated her work here. Her employment here predates the arrival of Fr. Pat and brings us back to the early days of the parish. Keep Char in your prayers.
Msgr. Bob The celebration for Msgr. Bob was a great success. There was a very good turn-out of parishioners, family and some of Msgr. Bob’s friends from other assignments. It was a fitting tribute to an energetic and devoted priest who puts his heart into whatever he is doing. Thank you again, Msgr. Bob, for your work here at St. Francis. May God bless the important work you undertake at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie, N.Y.
A Music Note from Charmaine Forty one years ago, I joined the St. Francis Choir under the direction of Shelia Pedersen. During this time, I met such wonderful and supportive people. In the beginning, I was a choir member who sang at weddings and funerals under Fr. Keyes. Then we lost two of our sons in four years. Friends and families of St. Francis assisted us with food, prayers and hands on support. As Fr. Keyes once put it in his favorite song, “No Man is an Island”. We share our joys and griefs and we need one another. How true of the members of St. Francis. After Fr. Keyes retired, Fr. Pat Armshaw took over. Music became a way of life for me and took on a new direction. I remained a member of the choir and began my studies in music at SCC in Brentwood. From there, I studied at Westminster Choir College for 2 1/2 more years and got my Music Certificate in Voice and Directing. As part of my degree, I had to start a Junior Choir and then the Adult Choir. I also went on many workshops across the US and locally to be kept up to date with the changes in the Church Rites. One of the most amazing times as Director was when we had a choir of 40 and a full compliment of 12 instruments. What an awesome feeling and amazing sound we produced. Fr. Pat’s favorite song, “A Bridge Over Troubled Water”, always inspired me and reminded me how truly special the people of the parish are; and that God will always be there in times of happiness and trouble. Then three years ago our present pastor, Fr. Peter took the helm. His favorite hymn was “Bless this House”. One of the lines in the poem says, “Bless us all that one day we may be fit O Lord to dwell with thee…”. Music has always been my life and he let me stay on as Director of Music and Liturgy. It was during this time that I realized my health was declining and that I would have to retire. Music has always spoken to me and helped me through life. My favorite song is “The Impossible Dream”, from The Man of La-Mancha. When all else fails and there is no light at the end of the tunnel – remember! To Dream the impossible dream To fight the unbeatable foe, To strive when your arms are too weary To run, where the brave may not go. This is my quest to follow that star, No matter how hopeless, no matter how far. To fight for the right without question or pause To be willing to march into hell for that heavenly cause. And I know if I’ll only be true to that glorious quest That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I’m laid to my rest. And my SOUL will be better for this that one man scorned and covered with scars Still strove with his last ounce of courage to reach the unreachable star. Yes, through my trials and tribulations; my faith, my family, my congregation and this song have seen me through. On July 10th, I will be retiring to Bluffton, SC and living with my youngest daughter. All the family has moved to Bluffton – time for me to join them. Love to a warm, wonderful parish! July 1, 2012Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time: In today’s Gospel we see how in faith, Jarius asked Jesus to heal his daughter and how Jesus then answered his prayer. In prayer we also come to know that we are loved by God, and in that trust we ask for healing for ourselves, our loved ones and all those who are suffering. This week, please join with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in praying for the healing of all those who are ill and especially those who have no one to pray for them.

FINAL HOLY HOURS—A FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM
The final Holy Hours for our FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM program take place on this coming Monday July 2nd and Tuesday July 3rd between 7:00 and 8:00pm. It is fitting that we close our Novena for the Church and nation on the eve of America’s great holiday celebrating our tradition of FREE-DOM. We continue to seek Our Blessed Mother’s intercession to protect our Faith, prevent persecution of the Church, pre-serve Religious Liberty and Conscience Rights for all Ameri-cans, and to gain Our Lord’s Peace and Blessings upon the United States of America! There will be Adoration and Bene-diction of the Blessed Sacrament, the Holy Rosary, and special prayers for the occasion. All are invited to participate in this grand effort on behalf of God, His Church, and our Country!! Long live Christ the King and Our Lady of America!

We sometimes get very desperate calls of Baby in the last diaper or out of formula (only water in the baby bottle) as we make an emergency visit. Each day we praise God through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Francis for your caring support of over 253 babies we together have directly assisted. Our babies especially need Huggies and Pampers diapers sizes 4, 5, and 6, unscented baby wipes, boxes of baby cereal, and stage 2 jars of baby food. We are looking for drivers who can take a senior who goes to the same Mass they do to offer transportation.
