Recently through your generous support in the monthly
Parish Capital Fund Collection we were able to perform
necessary masonry work on both the church and rectory
steps. We are now painting the two storage sheds as well
as the garage. The cost of these projects amounted to al-
most $14,000.

Special thanks to our choir members who
recently finished their season of ministry
at St. Florence Parish. We wish to thank
them for their many hours of dedication
to the music ministry and their willing-
ness to share their God-given talent to our
parish. Choir will resume in September
and we are hoping more people will join
this ministry. You do not have to have a
beautiful voice. Many ordinary voices
can make a beautiful sound. Thank you
again to our choir members:

CATHOLIC APPEAL
LIVING OUR FAITH TOGETHER
ARCHDIOCESE OF BOSTON
CATHOLIC APPEAL: THANK YOU
We appreciate the donations already made by St. Flor-ence parishioners for the Archdiocese Catholic Appeal for 2018: $11,225. Our parish assessment is $15,727. We encourage all St. Florence parishioners to help us meet our obligation. THE GOOD NEWS
OF SALVATION Each year the “Propagation of the Faith” asks each parish to
invite a Religious Community that brings the message of our
Catholic Faith to foreign lands to share their message with us.
On the last weekend of June we welcome Vincent Santilli from
the apostolate of Haiti’s “Hands Together” to present their
missionary efforts with us. Vince is a member of this Catholic
Mission Outreach working in Haiti—to share with us how our
Catholic Church continues to help the “poorest of the poor”.
Vince is a faithful volunteer for Hands Together, who has been
to Haiti many times and visits parishes around the U.S. to share
his experiences working with the Catholic missionaries there.
The Church in Haiti is struggling to bring God’s love to the
many hurting people and we are the comfort. In Haiti there are
10.9 million people in an area smaller than Maryland. 70% of
these cannot read, and 85% live below poverty level. In slum
areas 4 out of 5 children do not reach the age of five, and
nationally 1 in 3 children suffer from chronic malnutrition. The
hurricanes in 2004 and 2008, along with the devastating
January 12, 2010 earthquake and hurricane later that same year,
have left Haiti severely damaged and in desperate need of our
prayers and support. Hands Together runs free schools,
medical clinics and nutrition programs in Cite Soleil, providing
25,000 daily school meals and helping thousands of people who
struggle to survive. Their work among the violence and savage
poverty there is founded upon the Catholic social teachings of
the dignity of human life and a preferential option for the poor.
Hands Together embraces a clear ethic of life based on Catholic
teaching that proclaims God’s infinite and absolute love for us.
About one-third of Hands Togethers’ mission work supports
educational, health, charity, and developmental projects in City
Soleil, The Dioceses of Gonaives and Cap Haitian where more
than 1 million live in abject poverty.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES
In preparation for the collaborative that will commence in
June, 2020 with St. Florence and St. Joseph Parish, the
Religious Education classes here at St. Florence will be
limited to preparation for the Sacraments of Holy
Communion and Confirmation.
The remaining classes (Grades 3 to 8) will be combined
with St. Joseph Religious Education Program. This will
also make better use of the parish resources of both
churches.
