Welcome and Announcements

GATHERING FOR WORSHIP Almighty God, You alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners. Grant Your people grace to love what You command and desire what You promise; that, among the swift and varied changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

We Praise You, Lord

L — The L is a God who avenges. P — O God who avenges, shine forth. L — Rise up, Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve. P — How long, L , will the wicked, how long will the wicked be jubilant? They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers are full of boasting. L — They crush your people, L ; they oppress your inheritance. P — They slay the widow and the foreigner; they murder the fatherless. L — They say, “The L does not see; the God of Jacob takes no notice.” Take notice, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise? P — Does he who fashioned the ear not hear? L — Does he who formed the eye not see? P — Does he who disciplines nations not punish? L — Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge? The L knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile. P — Blessed is the one you discipline, L , the one you teach from your law; you grant them relief from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked. L — For the L will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance. Judgment will again be founded on righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it. P — Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers? Unless the L had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death. When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, L , supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. L — Can a corrupt throne be allied with you — a throne that brings on misery by its decrees? The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. ALL — But the L has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge. He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the L our God will destroy them.

Prayer (including The Lord’s Prayer)

Our Father Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

Sharing of Thanksgiving ............ Music

Offering of Our Gifts (see note on page 5) Our Return to God Our Savior Prayer of Confession O God of Grace, Thou hast imputed my sin to my substitute, and hast imputed his righteousness to my soul, clothing

me with a bridegroom’s robe, decking me with jewels of holiness. But in my Christian walk I am still in rags; my best prayers are stained with sin; my penitential tears

are so much impurity; my confessions of wrong are so many aggravations of sin; my receiving the Spirit is tinctured with selfishness.

I need to repent of my repentance; I need my tears to be washed; I have no robe to bring to cover my sins, no loom to weave my own righteousness; I am always standing clothed in filthy garments, and by grace am always receiving change of

raiment, for thou dost always justify the ungodly; I am always going into the far country, and always returning home as a prodigal, always saying,

Father, forgive me, and thou art always bringing forth the best robe. Every morning let me wear it, every evening return in it, go out to the day’s work in it, be married in

it, be wound in death in it, stand before the great white throne in it, enter heaven in it shining as the sun.

Grant me never to lose sight of the exceeding sinfulness of sin, the exceeding righteousness of salvation, the exceeding glory of Christ, the exceeding beauty of holiness, the exceeding wonder of grace.

Silent Prayer

Assurance of God’s Pardon: Romans 10:8-13 L — “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,” that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: P — That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. L — For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. P — As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.” L — For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, ALL — for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Rejoice! #38 — Heal Us, Emmanuel (See page 6)

*Tithes and Offerings (4 options) During COVID-19

1. This option works really well: Send a check to the church at the church's street address 4400 St. Elmo Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37409. Please address the envelope to St Elmo Presbyterian Church ATTN: bookkeeping.

This will ensure privacy and security, as these envelopes will be stored securely and dealt with according to our accounting policies ensuring proper handling. The church mailbox has a lock on it.

2. Another option that works really well is to set up a "bill pay" check through your bank's website. Most banks have a bill pay feature where you can log into your account online, find the bill-pay feature, add the church as a payee using the church's street address, and then schedule one-time or recurring payments to be sent to the church. You may need the church phone number for this when you set up the account: 423-821-1424. If it asks for an account #, use: Offering, Deacon’s Fund, General Fund, or something similar.

3. If one of these options does not work well for you, another option for making a donation to the church is online through

the church's Square account. The link to this, found in the FAQ section of the church website, is

https://st-elmo-presbyterian-church.square.site. When you get to this page, remember to scroll down. There are many options. We are glad to receive donations in

this way if it is the best option for you. If mailing a check or bank bill pay work for you, those two methods are preferred for us, for the sake of avoiding processing fees, and due to the advantage of less complicated processing for bookkeeping.

4. Write your check and drop it off at church during the week. But call/text first to make sure we are here.

If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail Mark Slavovsky at [email protected]. Thank you all for your faithful financial support of the church. Mark

Pray for the Persecuted Church in NIGERIA (12)

IDP ,

S : V M , J 2, 2020

Like most of the world, Nigeria has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Although Nigerians have been told to shelter in place, that hasn’t slowed a wave of attacks against Christians in northern Nigeria. VOM workers reported these recent attacks that occurred within just one week this month:

May 16: Fulani Islamic militants attacked Ungwa Anjo, in southern Kaduna state. Two people were killed and many others displaced as attackers burned Christians’ houses and property.

May 18: Boko Haram extremists attacked Dapchi village, in Yobe state. The Islamists burned down the General Hospital, forcing many patients to run for their lives. Since the attack, many have been reported missing.

May 21: Fulani Islamic militants launched another attack in southern Kaduna state, one of many recent attacks in the region. VOM workers are still trying to determine how many were injured or killed. IDP (internally displaced people) camps are overflowing, and aid is difficult due to the pandemic.

Despite ongoing danger from both militants and the virus, VOM workers are delivering aid to Christians affected by these attacks.
